It was about 5 o'clock when we head over to Cathy's for dinner. my mom looked over joyed to have been invited somewhere in our first week of living here. even if it was just to our neighbors. My mom has always loved making new friends. I on the other hand was not very excited. if I had it my way I would be sitting in my room eating and watching Netflix.
Once we arrived we stepped up onto the large wrap around porch. my dad stepped forward and rung the doorbell. we heard some shuffling on the other side. a few seconds later the door swung open, revealing a very pleased Cathy.
"Hi y'all! c'mon in!"
She moved aside and opened the door further. we all walked in. there house was large, but not quite as big as our house.
"Hope your hungry! dinner is in 30 minutes!"
"Thanks for having us." my mom said with a grin.
"Oh anytime! I love making new friends! now c'mon, lets go meet the rest of the family." She turned on her heels, we followed her through the hallway and through the kitchen door. the sweet smell flooded my nostrils, this is close to what heaven smells like. then I noticed a large man seated at a table. he looked from his newspaper an greeted us.
"Well hello! I'm Ryan!"
My father shook his hand as my mom began to speak.
"I'm June, my husband Scott, our son Chris and this is our daughter Niki."
I smiled and nodded. Everyone continued to chat, I sat and listened. Well actually I wasn't really listening. I just sat there like I was so interested but to be honest I could not give a damn. about ten minutes later we herd the front door open then close. suddenly a boy walked through the kitchen door. He was tall, but not lanky, I could see his muscles through his tight white shirt. he had brown hair on the longer side, with deep blue eyes that were light at the same time. Then his eyes met mine, he could tell I was staring because a small smirk crept up on his lips. I quickly moved my gaze. Stupid guys and there stupid smirks.
"Everyone!" Cathy chirped
"This is my son Jacob!"
Jacob walked over to us shook my parents hand, as they made some small talk. he looked my way, I moved my attention to my black painted nails.

About 30 minutes later we were all seated at the dinner table. Our parents were having a conversation about something, I really was not listening. I had a plate of roast chicken, potatoes and salads in front of me, I was not all that hungry though. I began staring at the table cloth, and tracing the design with my finger. I could not her my name being called, until someone tapped my shoulder.
"What" I snapped. of coarse it was Chris who decided to wake me up from my day dream.
"You really need to stop doing that Niki"
"And what was I doing?"
"You just tune everyone out, an you are rather good at it."
I just rolled my eyes and put my focus back to the cloth. before I could zone out Jacob said something.
"So Niki, are you excited for school?"
"Uh, sure, yea"
I lied. I was not looking forward to it at all. If I could be homeschooled I would. I'm not one for making new friends, I'm kind of a reserved person. Jacob just nodded at my answer. Chris on the other hand could tell I was lying. I don't know how, but for some reason he could always tell when I was.
Within ten minutes I was helping my mom and Cathy do the dishes, while the guys sat in the living room and talked. My mom and Cathy were going on about some shopping centre. I again tuned them about, I was wishing I was allowed to put my headphones on, but before we came my parents told me not to because it was 'very rude' and I know it was. At this point I could not care.
Before I knew it we were finished the dishes and were all seated in the living room. I think I have said a total of 7 words my whole time being here. I was about to zone out for the millionth time, but then I herd my name.
"So Jacob do you think you could show Niki around tomorrow?"
I was wondering why she did not say Chris, then I remembered he was a senior so I would not really see him around.
"Uhh, um, sure?" Jacob managed to stammer out.
'I'm sure I can get around just fine by myself' my mind was flooded with these thoughts.
"Will that be okay with you Niki?" Cathy asked with a smile on her face. I was perfectly capable of getting around myself, but I did not want to say that in front of everyone.
"Uhh, ya, um sure" I managed to answer
Our parents began to have a another conversation. I was just glad those two were having a good time. I was clearly in a very pissy mood. So everyone mostly just avoided to have a conversation with me. But that's how it usually works, we go somewhere and I am the perfect wall flower.
We were about to leave an hour later.
"Thanks for coming! we will have you back anytime!" Cathy said
"Thanks for inviting us! it was a pleasure." my mom stated.
My dad and Ryan shook hands. I was leaning on the door frame, just smiled and nodded when Cathy and Ryan said goodbye. just then Jacob turned to me.
"See you tomorrow?" He said with a smirk on his face. Another smirk? really? is that all this guy does? I have to admit though he makes it look good.
"Uhm, uh ya, I guess" I answered. He nodded at my reply, but he still had that stupid smirk on his face. We walked out of the house. I couldn't get Jacob out of my head, I know his type, and I don't want to get involved with that again. Not after what happened last time.
