I looked at him in confusion when he called out. I couldn't believe what I saw next. There, in front of me, stood all four killjoys. My family, who I thought died.

Now

My breath caught in my throat and my heart stopped, dead in its tracks. I just couldn't believe it. My eyes were blown wide and in that moment time just seemed to freeze. I was shocked to see all four killjoys standing in front of me. I felt relieve and happiness wash over me. They were alive! But my happiness was short lived as I took in the state that they were all in causing my blood to run cold. They were covered in cuts and bruises from head to toe. They were soaked in their own blood, making their once vibrantly colorful clothes cling to their skin. Some of the blood was old and dry,  looking cracked, while some of it was still fresh, oozing out of the new deep wounds that look angry from how red and swollen they were. The wounds were clearly infected from not being cleaned and cared for. They were being tortured.

I couldn't believe that any one could treat someone like this. It was inhumane and cruel. They couldn't even stand up by themselves. The only reason they weren't lying on floor was because they were being held up by the dracs that dragged them here. I felt my anger raising the more I looked at what they had done to them. My blood was really starting to boil over and I found it harder to control  the building rage burning inside me as I pushed my ray gun harder against Korse. He just continued to smirk at me. "You sick monster." I growled. It was hard to take my eyes off of the four men I called my family. Barely conscious. Poison looked up to me, his eyes were dull and almost lifeless, swimming with pain and fear. He looked so hopeless. It tore my heart to pieces seeing him like that, to see someone so strong look so weak and broken. "How could you do this?" I screamed at Korse with fire burning in my eyes. He started to laugh.

"How could I not. It was so much fun carving into them, hearing them scream and beg. Watching the light slowly dim behind their eyes. Watching them give up and  break. You know, my favorite part was when they would say that you would come to save them only to realize that you were never coming. After all you did think they were dead. It was quite amusing to watch." He laughed again. Hearing those words felt like a knife was being drove through my heart and slowly being twisted in deeper. When I thought they were dead the guilt was there and I could live with it because it was my fault but now that I know that they thought I was coming to save them and I had no idea that they were even breathing, caused the guilt to consume me alive, devouring me.

I just felt numb and I couldn't listen to anymore of the pain they suffered through. So it was time for Korse to die. "Time's up." I said emotionless. With that, I looked him in the eye and pulled the trigger. His body fell to the floor, lifeless, motionless and a small pool began to form on the floor by his head. Then I turned to the dracs holding the four killjoys, staring in shock at the now lifeless Korse, and shot them while they were still distracted. I ran up to the Poison and the others, helping Poison stand. Kobra managed to stand on his own and helped Jet to stand and supported him while I supported Poison and Fun. We slowly made our way to the exit. Luckily the others killjoys took care of the dracs in the building so we didn't need to fight our way out.

Once we were outside, I helped them all into the van and got in the driver's seat. I started the van and drove back to the Diner. It wasn't too long until we finally arrived and once we did I helped them all into the Diner. Once I got them all sitting down in the booth I got them some water since they looked dehydrated. I also radioed Dr. D to let him know that they were alive. "Hey Dr. D guess what?" I asked with excitement. "The fabulous four are back! They didn't die!" I said, almost jumping with joy. "They are? That's unbelievable!" He practically shouted. "How are they?" He asked. That's when my excitement faded. "Not so good. They were tortured and have many wounds. They look infected." I said sadly. "I'm on my way." He said seriously and with that our conversation ended.

I still couldn't believe it. They were still alive. Now they're save. Now they're home.
