Chloe's apartment was cute. Jody, Chloe's foster mom who is now my foster mom, did a really great job at making the place look cozy and inviting. The paint on the walls was old and faded, and the floors had some stains and lots of ware from previous owners, but the place was comforting. Much more warm and inviting then my house. The difference between the two house's was huge. My house was decorated with expensive modern pieces of furniture and art, while Chloe's apartment was decorated with second hand cheap furniture and cheesy black and white photos from Walmart.
When I first walked in, I saw a small boy sitting on the couch watching cartoons. He didn't even glance my way, just simply said, "Hey Chloe." and kept watching his show. I figured this was Jake. I could smell some food coming from the kitchen, and walked towards it to see Jody in front of the stove, stirring a pot of something. She also didn't look my way when she said, "Dinner is almost ready Chloe, get washed up and come set the table please."
I had no idea what she meant by get washed up, but I walked down the small hallway anyways to find Chloe's bedroom. I opened up the first door on the left, and found the bathroom. I decided to just wash my hands and head back to the kitchen. Luckily the bowels and forks were already placed on the table, from Jake I assumed, since he was sitting in his spot already.
"Thanks for setting the table Jake." I said and took a seat. Jody came over and set the steaming pot she was stirring earlier in the centre of the table. I could see now that it was spaghetti with a few meatballs. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I don't like to eat meat, so I took a few and put them on my plate anyways.
There wasn't much food on the table. When we eat at my house Frank always makes a feast, with at least 3 different types of food you can eat as your entree, because my mother is very picky, and never knows what she wants to eat. At my house there is also never any talk at the dinner table, but here Jody kept asking how Jake's week was and how my day was.
When dinner was over I got the call from Chloe, and excused myself to go to the bathroom to answer her. I guess I did forget to tell her some things, like what I do for school and the parking situation in the garage, but I'm sure she forgot to tell me stuff to. I don't know where my classrooms will be on Monday when I go to her school, and I don't know where her locker is. I guess that is what we will be talking about on the phone tonight when everyone is asleep.
Being in Chloe's place was very different from being myself. She has such a boring life. After the call with her, I did the dishes while Jake put them away, and I secretly watched where he put them so I would know for next time, and then we just sat down and watched TV. I excused myself after watching two hours of stupid cartoons, claiming I had homework to do. Chloe's room was beside the bathroom, and Jake clearly sleeps in here to, because there was a small bed pushed up to one side of the room with race car sheets on them.
It was now eleven, just one more hour till I could call Chloe, or she calls me. I'm excited to hear what she thinks of Blair and Dana.
