Love Doesn't have To Hurt

"I don't know why I used to fall in love with the wrong kind."

Waking up early at six in the morning at a normal day was unusual for Carrie. She was finally home from her tour after almost a year aside from the short summer break she took.

Mike didn't have a game for the day and so they decided that the day will be spent at home with just the three of them. Something they didn't get to do a lot because of their busy schedules, the last time they were able to do so was almost a month ago.

Carrie didn't feel the need to get up just yet, it was still too early for her liking but she also couldn't go back to sleep. She ran her fingers through Mike's  hair softly, then planted a kiss on his forehead before sitting up.

"What are you thinking about?"

The sound of her husband's raspy voice took the country singer out of her daze. "Hmm?" She looked down at him with a smile.

Mike chuckled. "I've been awake and watching you for some time now, you seem to be in deep thought."

Carrie shook her head as she was being pulled down by Mike. "Nothing important." She answered, pecking his lips. Resting her head on his chest, she draped an arm over his stomach. "I love you."

"I love you more." Mike returned the sentiment, rubbing Carrie's arms. "Whatever is on going on in that mind of yours, I'm always willing to listen."

Carrie smiled then turned her head to face him. "I'm just so happy that I'm the one you fell in love with  and that I'm the one you wanted to marry and have a family with."

Mike smiled. "Why do I have the feeling that there's more to it than that?" He chuckled a bit.

Carrie rolled her eyes playfully. He knew her too well. "It's just that all my past relationships, I always felt like I'm not good enough and I always had this feeling that whenever I'm not with them, they're going to find someone better, someone who's willing to give up everything for them and it turned out that I was right. I'm always the one left heartbroken but then you happened and with you everything was easy. I never had to worry about anything. You make me feel beautiful, happy, alive. You make me feel complete."

Before Carrie could say any more, Mike had her pinned down against the mattress. Smiling smugly as their fingers interlaced.

"You better wipe the smirk off of your face before I smack it off of you." Carrie laughed, before receiving a short kiss on the lips.

"You don't have to worry about any of that. I'm never  going to leave and making you feel bad about yourself is the last thing I want to do. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me and I'd be a fool to throw that away."

Mike's words sent Carrie to tears. "I love you so much." The wife sobbed.

Mike laughed a bit. "Why are you crying?" He began wiping her tears away with his thumbs.

"I don't know." Carrie laughed in the midst of her tears falling from her tear ducts to her cheeks. "Damn you and your speech."

Mike shook his head and laughed some more. "You gave me a speech first!"

"When did we get so sappy?"

Mike just shrugged and kissed her longer this time until they got interrupted by the baby monitor and Isaiah's crying.

"I got up the last time, it's your turn, daddy." Carrie stuck her tongue out at her husband. "I'll prepare breakfast okay?" She called out as Mike was walking out the door and she began to get up.

"Lying here beside you feels so fine, talking about everything in this heart of mine."
