Chapter Seven.
Song: Welcome To My Life by Simple Plan
******
"This is crazy," Jayden muttered under his breath as we walked through the front door. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his words. Yes, it's a crazy idea- moving out at the age of sixteen. But it's what I want to and am going to do. I can't stand another second in that damned home. We were supposed to come here yesterday, but Jannah's mom needed Jannah to help her cook dinner so we decided to come today.
When I came home from school, Sarah was moving the pictures of my mother and older sister off the walls and replacing them with portraits of herself. She was going to put them in a box and shove them in the garage, but instead, I grabbed all the pictures from her hands and placed them in my room. I can't believe dad let her do that. What the hell is wrong with him?
The four of us began walking towards the front desk, the lobby completely empty. Riot rung the bell that sat on the white desk. A few seconds later, a small woman with curly black hair walked into the front desk. The woman's eyes immediately set on Jannah, a spark of joy flickering in her light brown eyes. "Jannah!" The woman exclaimed. She hurried out of the office and into the lobby, eagerly embracing Jannah in a tight hug.
Jayden, Riot and I all awkwardly stood there in silence, patiently waiting for the 'family reunion' to end. I found it amusing how the woman barely reached Jannah's already small height. The strong similarities gave it away that this woman had to be Jannah's aunt, but I didn't know her name so I had absolutely no idea what to address her by.
Pulling away from the embrace, Jannah turned her attention to us. "Aunt Jenny, these are my friends- Riot, Lydia and Jayden." She introduced us. "Lydia wants to rent out an apartment."
Jenny's brown eyes flickered towards me, her lips pressing together in a tight line. By the look on her face, I knew that she was trying to find a reason to rent one of her apartment's to someone like me. A tall blonde girl with eyeliner on both her bottom and top lashes, mascara, pale skin, bleached blonde hair, ripped tights, red shorts. a Dr. Dre tank top with the sleeves ripped off and red vans. On sight, I don't think anyone would want to rent an apartment to a girl like me.
"Miss Jenny, I know, I don't seem like the right type of person you want astaying here, but I promise, I will be good. I won't throw parties, I won't bring in random strangers at crazy hours of the night, I won't cause trouble. I'll keep to myself. I promise, Miss. I have enough for a deposit and six months rent in advance. Please, just give me a chance." I begged, looking at Jenny with pleading eyes. I wasn't used to begging for something. Hell, I only asked someone for something twice before I decided to do or get it on my own. But I was desperate. Desperate to leave that fucking house, and I was willing to do anything in order to get that done.
Jenny sighed heavily. "I already have another young girl staying by herself in this building. If I take you in and the police find out that I'm letting teenage girls stay in this building without an adult guardian, I'm going to be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor..." she paused, her hands running through her wavy dark hair.
"But, me being the person that I am, I'm willing to take that risk. I'll lower the rent so it's more affordable to pay monthly."
My eyes widened slightly. A wide smile slowly spreading across my lips as her words began to sink in. "Holy crap, miss! Thank you so freaking much! When can I move in? I promise, you will not regret this decision." I asserted.
Jenny smiled kindly at me. "Well, if we get all the paperwork done and you pay the deposit, you can move in by tonight, hopefully." She replied. I looked over at Riot and Jayden, smiling widely at the two.
