Tessa's POV
"What are you doing here?" I blurted out the first thing that came into my mind. I didn't care how rude it was.
Seeing Jamie reminded me of what he did in Mexico and he was the last person in the world that I wanted to see.
Jamie didn't answer my question. He walked over to one of the chairs in front of my desk and took a seat, resting his file on the empty space on my desk. He stared at me as though it was the first time he ever saw me.
"Jamie, what are you doing here?" I repeated my question with anger in my tone as I glared at him.
"I want to see them," was all he said. Then he cleared his throat and continued, "Jay and Jessie."
By then, anger was boiling in my veins and it took all of my strength not to yell at Jamie.
What the hell was wrong with him? I gave him a chance to see them already and he did not show up! Now he wants to come to the office and tell me that he wants to see them?
"Jamie, I gave you a chance before and you failed to show up," I said as calmly as I could.
"I know and that's why I want another chance," he gave his reason. "Look, I wasn't ready then, Tessa and I'm ready now to-"
"You weren't ready then?" I asked, squinting my eyes in confusion. "What makes you ready now, then?"
"I just want to see them, Tessa," he said coldly.
"No," I simply said. "Can you close the door on your way out?" I told him and looked at the time. I shifted in my chair to straighten myself for the next patient.
"This conversation is not over," Jamie stated.
"Yes, it is. Please leave," I waved my hand to show him the door, not even offering a smile.
"I remembered the letter I wrote that Gideon delivered to you. I remembered telling you to write to me if you couldn't stand to hear my voice and you never did. You didn't call or wrote to me when they were born, okay? So stop trying to make me the bad person alone in this?" he slammed his hand down on the desk, startling me.
I must say... he was right. It was my fault that he had not known when they were born and that I had twins. I couldn't make him seem like the only wrong person because I had a part to play in that. I remembered reading that letter and I knew that I was wrong.
"Okay, I was wrong not to tell you," I admitted. "I'm sorry for that but that does not change the fact that you stood me up in Mexico."
"I'm sorry for that," was all he said, excluding the reason why he did.
"Well why did you?" I asked, hoping that it was not a stupid excuse.
"I did not want to meet them as their father," he replied softly.
"Jamie, I need a better excuse than that," I told him, rolling my eyes.
"I'm their father. I deserve the right-"
"We shall be having the same conversation each time you think 'I'm their father' is a great excuse. Jamie, I don't care whether you were not ready. Do you know why?" I asked rhetorically. "I wasn't ready to be a mother but I had to and that was the best thing to happen to me. Sure I'm always tired but when they're sleeping and you see that faint smile on their faces, you realize that you love them more than anything. I don't care for your stupid excuses anymore so can you please leave?"
"No," he said simply. "I'm happy that our children-"
"My children, actually. Did you forget that you're not ready to be a father?" I reminded him.
"Tessa, why are you being a bitch?" he asked, frustrated. He passed his hand through his shoulder length blonde hair and sighed.
He did not change over the past two years physically at all. He still wore those tight jeans that could cut off the blood circulation to his feet and Doc Martens. He wore a white button down shirt with a black leather jacket.
"Why are you being a dick?" I snapped at him.
"Can you remember when you loved me?" he asked, desperately.
"Not really," I shrugged.
I lied. I remembered every moment of it.
"Tessa, I know you're still angry how things ended for us but our kids shouldn't get involved in it, okay? You know that they deserve to have a father figure in their life," he defended himself quite well. He was right again and I hated it.
"Okay and do you want to be in their lives temporarily? You live in London, Jamie. I don't want my kids asking why daddy can't make it to their birthday parties or visit them on Christmas," I admitted and folded my arms across my chest.
"So do you want me to stay out of their lives?"he asked, becoming angry.
"You've done it so far so why can't you continue? At least until they're old enough to understand," I tried to be nice, however, I just wanted him to leave.
"Fine," he gritted his teeth and got up. He took a piece of paper from his pocket and threw it on my desk. I took it up as he turned his back and walked towards the door. I read it and was quite confused as to why he gave me an address to an apartment which was just a few blocks away from my house.
"Why did you give me this?" I asked.
He opened the door and turned to me. "In order to show you how much I want to be in their lives. I rented an apartment. I'll be in New York for 6 months."
I didn't think that my blood pressure could get so high that I would feel to just faint right now.
