"You want to be a medicine cat?"

I'm pretty sure we've all read those fanfics.
You know, where the main character wants to be a medicine cat so their siblings bully them.

Why the actual fuck do y'all do this? In the Warriors world, medicine cats are respected. Hell, bullying in itself is uncommon.

In the Warriors society, each Clan is basically a family. They care for one another deeply, though of course everyone has their enemies. The thing is, bullying is unlikely to happen in a Clan anyway (though it does, occasionally) but for someone to be bullied for wanting to become a medicine cat... It makes no sense!

You see, medicine cats are respected among all Clans. They are the cats who heal, the cats who talk to StarClan. They are considered a high rank. Now, what medicine cats really do is lesser known, it's quite a mysterious role to many warriors.

Being a medicine cat isn't exactly considered "cool" by kits, but kits are more likely to tease than bully. Because even if they don't understand the desire to be a medicine, they would still know that medicine cats are very valued and respected by the Clan. They know that medicine cats are a high rank, so they would be more likely to support and even be in awe of their sibling, even if they don't understand why their sibling would rather work with herbs than hunt or fight.

But would kits outright bully their sibling/denmate for wishing to become a medicine cat? Not usually.

This is my problem with Tallstar's Revenge. Despite the fact that I barely remember it, Tallstar, Tallkit at the time, was bulled by Shrewkit (was that his name?) And I'm not so sure if that's very realistic. Now, I don't really care about this that much, it's just that he was bullied because he was supposed to become a tunneler. However, within WindClan, tunnelers are highly respected! So why was he bullied? Because of the plot, of course!

Now, why do people write this in their fanfics? Well, it's generally written - scratch that, always written from the bullied kit who wants to be a medicine cat. Why? Because people do the shitty thing off "My main character has to have a tragic life, so they'll be bullied! That always makes a tragic but good character!"

Do you know how much I hate this? Y'all need to stop making your character a victim in a sad attempt to get people to like them more.

Being bullied should not be used to make your character tragic, as it is a terrible thing that shouldn't be romanticised. Not to mention that it doesn't make sense for your character to be bullied because they want to be a medicine cat. A few words of misunderstanding, perhaps, but full out bullying? No.

Seriously guys. Stop this.
