Small Things That Annoy Me

Welcome to a small list of things that annoy me in Warriors fanfictions..

- "I hate going on dawn patrols!" "Partridgeclaw groaned as he awoke at dawn, remembering he was on the dawn patrol."
"Dusk is falling. You must be tired, Godwitpaw." No. Cats are crepuscular. They are most active at dawn and dusk, no one should be beginning to sleep at dusk or be complaining at dawn. This is in a realism sense, of course.

- "It was nightfall, and everyone was asleep."
"Cootstep adored sunhigh, he always felt so active and alive!" Cats are far more active at night then at day. Cats sleep for 12-16 hours a day. However, in Warriors, it would have to be less, but it's still reasonable to expect that dear old Cootstep would be feeling sluggish around sunhigh, and not everyone would be sleeping at night. There should at least be a moonhigh patrol - remember Into The Wild?

- "Wow, Jayfeather! It's so cool you had a romance with Half Moon! ...What relevance did it have to the plot, again?"
"Oh Cherryflame, I love you! Please tell me, what's the point of our romance?" Unnecessary romances. Who says a good fic needs romance? If Cherryflame and Snailstar are going to have a romance, it shouldn't just be there because you want a cute ship, or you want precious Cherryflame to have a powerful mate to make her seem desirable. It should have some relevance to the plot, even if it's just to give your character some development. (Cute ships are great but you still need relevance!!)

- "Hi, I'm Nettlemask, and my kin are rarely mentioned, because it's not like family matters in the Warrior's society at all!"
"Firestar, the cat of morality, is the reason family is important in ThunderClan, but it's never going to be mentioned despite its clear importance to the development of ThunderClan, and the fact that it's far more interesting than a book about fucking Tigerheart" Family is extremely important in the Clan society, and is never mentioned in fanfics. Why? It appears that in the Clans, family is valued (Think of Leafpool and Squirrelflight's connection. Think of how Tigerstar's crimes affected the way Bramblestar was perceived through his entire life.)

- "Wow, a prophecy about me, the protaganist, who would've guessed!"
"Briartail, guess what? I'm the chosen one! I have a prophecy about me where I save the world, though there was nothing that set me apart from the others. I was chosen because i'm the main character, haha!" This annoys me so much. Why is every main character the special one in the prophecy? Most people would answer "It makes things interesting. What would it be about if there was a prophecy but the protagonist wasn't in it?" It can be very good, if written well. I once read a book series where the main character had a prophecy about them, but then they were imprisoned and nothing could be done.. and then their sister came to save the day and it turns out the prophecy was always about the sister, not the protagonist. I also started reading this fic where everyone worshipped a kit who was prophesized  about.. but the main character was her sister. It wasn't very well-written, but it had a good concept.

- "Wow, i'm so suicidal and depressed and I'm going to scream it until the pretty she-cat falls in love with me and I'm okay."
"Hi so i'm 'insane' but the second the super-handsome tom Larkface falls in love with me, he'll fix me." Thankfully this isn't so common anymore, but this is one of the shittiest things an author/writer can do. No one can "fix your ins*nity" (Which the people who write this don't even know what ins*nity is) and no one can "cure your depression" by falling in love with you. You may feel slightly happier, but you'll still be depressed.  Looking at you, popular fic that I mentioned in my "Portraying Mental Illnesses" chapter.

- "I'm a beautiful silver tabby she-cat with blue eyes and my mate is a handsome dark tabby!"
"I'm the main character, so I am very attractive, naturally." Do.. do we really need to include beauty standards in fanfictions about cats, unless it's a significant part of worldbuilding? I mean, in the books, some cats are noted to be attractive, like Silverstream or Spottedleaf. But really, is it necessary to  make every she-cat beautiful and every tom handsome? Don't do the young adult novel approach to Warriors - "I'm either very beautiful or i'm plain but everyone loves me anyway." Seriously. Don't be afraid to include a character who's considered "ugly." And don't make it stereotypical.

- "I'm a female protagonist so my personality has to either be shy and floppy, or reckless and stubborn (In other words, a carbon copy of Squirrelflight)"
"I'm Kestreltooth and toms are either the friendly, bumbling friend, or hot, dark and mysterious" Seriously? These kind of personalities make me want to explode. Have some fic-writers ever met real people? Or do they just sit in a corner in a basement and dream of the outside world.. filled with people without flaws and utterly boring and unrealistic personalities?

I'm probably going to go into full rants about some of these. They annoy me sO much.
