.....

Let's sit and talk about this rank that constantly gets forgotten.

Permanent Queens.

Just think Daisy.

Okay, but why is this rank so overlooked? Even I've done it. I just forget it is a thing.

The thing is, people don't recognise it as a real, hard rank. I mean, being a warrior is tough. Everyday you're hunting, some days, you're fighting. Being a medicine cats is tough, you have to deal with injuries and illnesses and prevent deaths.. Both those ranks are rough.

But so is working in the nursery.

Kids are hard. They are shallow, and annoying, and unbelievably selfish. (though there are exceptions)

But kits are also very limited. They can't do much. Listen to stories, play games.. What else? Permanent Queens, or Nursey Helpers, (it doesn't even have an official name?) Have to keep these kits entertained for six moons. That's a long time. They have to keep the kits out of trouble, which can be incredibly difficult.

But that's not all they do.

Permanent Queens help out new queens, anxious queens, stressed queens. They not only help and deal with kits, but with the kit's mothers too.

Think about queens who weren't planning to have kits, but ended up with them. Think about first time queens. They would be anxious, and scared, and maybe angry at their unborn, unwanted kits.

Guess who's going to look after them? Teach them that their kits are a blessing, not a curse. Remind them that soon, they can go back to warrior duties. Guide them through pregnancy and giving birth, and motherhood?

It won't be the medicine cat.

Nursery helper to the rescue!

Who's going to give the tired and stressed queen a break from her noisy bundles of trouble? The deputy? Hell no. It'll be our dear friend, the Nursery helper!

What about older queens, who are having their last litter? They'd be pretty anxious. Or just queens who are prone to anxiety? Permanent Queens are their for them too.

But it's not just the mothers! Who's going to reassure and help the father's through their mate's pregnancy? (Very heteronormative atm, sorry y'all)

Who's going to show them exactly how to help their mate when she's sore and pregnant,(or he, if we have a trans dude pregnant with a kit)  or teaching them how to dad. The Nursery helpers are there for them too.

They have a huge job, and are so overlooked, it kills me.

Friendly reminder that gender roles suck and that toms can be permanent queens too.
