I woke up with a throbbing headache. Looking around the dark room I sat up slowly and glanced between Jeff and the others, they were still sound asleep.
I stood up quietly and went to the restroom. I stared at myself in the mirror. My eyes were slightly rimmed with black from lack of sleep, my hair stood in unholy places, as my closes stuck to my skin like glue, I had been sweating in my sleep due to the heated temperatures.
I shook my head slightly as I decided to take another shower, I felt gross, I might even be getting sick, but I won't admit it to myself unless necessary. I grabbed some comfortable travelling close from Jeffs bag then locked the door to the bathroom and stripped throwing my cloths to the corner. The water was warm, it relaxed my muscles as I stood there letting it run over me.
When I finished, I got dressed quickly walking back into the room, Jeff was awake but barely. He looked up at me and smiled, "Feel better?," I smiled and nodded. He laid back down for a second before getting up and taking a shower as well.
I sat quietly starring out the window, the sun was slowly rising, and surprisingly the birds were chirping softly, after a while Chris and Ade also woke up, also taking one last shower before we get on the road again. After everyone was done, we were off.
Ade looked genuinely sad that we had to leave the beds and pillows behind. But we had to keep going, those things could be anywhere, waiting to take someone again. Before leaving we stocked up at another store.
Soon we made it to the end of the city. At the time I was looking through my bag for some handsanatizer, when something caught my eye. It was the cross from the train, I pulled it out examining it. I hadnt realized I kept it until now, while walking Ade glanced back at me, while I looked at the cross, her eyes grew wide, "Mara what is that?" I looked at her then at The cross, Jeff spoke up picking it up from my hands, "It's the Cross from the train, they used it as a distraction so they could hypnotize me without her interfering." Ade reached to grab it but as soon as her fingers grazed it, she jumped back as if it bit her, "Ow, how can you hold that, it's blistering hot!" Me and Jeff looked at each other confused, Jeff handed it back to me, I held it with no problem, it wasn't hot at all. Chris then tired to take it, only earning the same reaction. Confusion filled the air. I slowly put it back in my bag, "No reason to fuss about it right now, we should keep going," everyone nodded, not completely convinced that it wasn't worrisome. After maybe an hour the city was far from site and in the past, the future wait in front of us, hiding and waiting, waiting to snatch us in its jaws.
The day went on slowly, The sun was blistering hot and was resting on my back, and even though I normally don't sun burn easily I knew it was leaving a pretty heafty one. Bugs flew around us, pestering us to know ends. All there was to do, was look into the emptyness in front of us, the only thing you could see was the cracks in the dirt. I held a water bottle.in one hand and a stick in the other, striking the ground.while walking. Ade walked next to me on my Right, Chris next to her, Jeff to my left. Everything was going fine until I saw a shadow pass over us, i looked up quickly, starring at the now Clouding sky, It looked like some type of bird, I could see its shadow flying through the clouds, it soon came to rest a little ways in front of us. The closer we got the more we noticed it was a vulture, It starred at us, not moving, not blinking, just waiting, At some point we got to close, and it soon flew up and away from us, still following us, keeping its distance. When the sun started falling, we rested, We sat in a circle huddled together, there were no sticks around to build a fire. Plus it started to drizzle, so we stayed together. I hummed to myself softly. I've always hated thunder, and when the wind got to strong, it frightened me. I never want to move, afraid it would carry me away, sweep me off my feet and take me to a place were nothing exists anymore.
After awhile everyone fell asleep, everyone except me. The night was cold but relieved me of my burning back from the sun. I starred at the sky and sighed. This journey is far from over and I'm scarred to know what will come....But to be honest I don't need to, I now something is coming, something bad. Someone was watching us, but it didn't feel like the things from earlier, it felt like something new and I just couldn't put my finger on it...and I didnt want to, but we will find out eventually, and when we do, all hell will break lose, and chaos will be left in its wake.
