As the men filed out of briefing Erika found her boyfriend. She looked a little better at the thought of working and taking her mind off of things for a while.
They gave each other a quick peck as he gripped her hands firmly in his. "I love you" Jon smiled and Erika responded "I love you too. Hey, we should take seven together." Erika looked to Ponch for his answer and got it from his eyes.
"Yeah! Hey we can go to that Taco place that we like!" Baker groaned at his partner's suggestion. "We go there all the time Ponch" Frank shrugged. "Because it's so good"
The group laughed as more of their friends entered the conversation. "Hey just make sure to leave room for work" Barry joked. "And no kissing on the first beat" Grossman chimed in "Or we'll have to have a talk Jon, while I'm cleaning my gun"
Jon just rolled his eyes, something that had mysteriously began occurring more now that he spent so much time with Erika. "Hey" Ponch said vearing away with the rest of the guys "I'll be out in a second. You two go ahead"
Baker nodded and held open the door for Erika. "I've got to get my bike from Harlan" she said trotting off in the direction of the small mechanic.
She was greeted by a friendly smile, clean hands, and Dave the dog. "Hi'ya Harlan. How's the mechanic bizz?" He tucked a red rag into his coat pocket. "Busy. Your bike is ready, though I would ride it around a little to loosen it up."
Erika nodded and Harlan stepped back as she turned it on and rode out of the garage. I'll just take it around the lot a little. Hmmm a good barrier... I'll stop close to the exit.
The small blonde road her bike freely around the lot and up to the road for a little. She stopped up at the main road waiting for Baker and Poncherello who were sure to be along soon.
There was a flicker of movement from the corner of her eyes. Her well trained gaze swept over the bushes at the end of the parking lot further away. Must have been- There! There was no mistaking the black glint of a riffle. Only this time it wasn't pointed at her at all. It was pointed... at Harlan.
Harlan had looked up by now but he was the only one able to see the gunman. He wasn't moving. He was frozen to the spot in terror! She looked at Jon and the sergeant talking a little ways away. They weren't seeing this! They could get shot too!
No! Erika's mind screamed, No one else will be hurt because of me! Erika didn't think about her own safety as she bolted her motor into the scene just as a round of bullets were fired.
Pain screamed up her right leg and arm as she lost control of the 800 pound motorcycle. It flipped flinging the radio and it's rider to the ground. Erika's head hit the concrete and her helmet cracked, proving useless. The motor came crashing down.
Another wave of pain split through her whole body before the young officer lost consciousness.
