It was kind of hard to disguise yourself when you had a bandage around your head, but that's what Jon was doing. Almost as soon as he had been placed in his room, he'd gotten dressed and snuck out.
Jon was actually quite suprised that they had given him his clothes. Ok, so maybe they hadn't really given him his clothes. Maybe he might have kind of broke into the locker.
He wandered through the halls. Peeking in open doors and risking looking in closed ones. The halls were full of people but they were all in a rush to be somewhere so they didn't notice Jon. He came to a sudden halt catching a glimpse of tan and blue.
There was a CHP uniform on a coat hanger, or what was left of it anyway. He hurried through the doorway and slowed. There on the hospital bed was a princess. A brave princess with hair of gold. Her smile was gone and her face was scratched but it was her.
He reached a chair at her bedside and sat. Agony clawed and twisted Jonathan's heart as he watched his love. Still. Silent. Broken. He tried to stop the tears that ran down his cheeks as he watched for any good signs. There wasn't any so far.
A bag of blood hung over Erika's bed along with an IV. A clear mask was over her mouth and a machine monitored her heart. Her right arm was casted and her right leg was bandaged. Jon wondered why they didn't fully cast her leg too. That could be either a good thing... or a bad one.
He gently grabbed her hand, before putting his head down. Everything was a blur and didn't even seem to be happening. Jon couldn't even remember what was going on now as his eyes closed. He yawned. Just... for a few seconds... a minute...
He wasn't sure how long he had been sitting there asleep... or how long he had been being watched.
"She's... she's not dead... is she?" A broken voice asked making him open his eyes and whip his head up. The room imeadiately tilted and swirled. The floor became the ceiling and everything doubled.
A woman rushed forward and held Jon's shoulders in concern as started to fall forward. "Are you alright? You should be in a hospital bed yourself! Let me call someone." "No!" He yelled, "No... Erika?"
Jon blinked up at the lady. It was... Erika! She stood there! Right there! But... no... He looked back to the sleeping princess. No... no, no, that was Erika in the bed. He turned to the other woman, then who's that? "No. She's not... dead, I mean" He said running a hand over his face.
She lifted a hand to her mouth and inched forward hesitantly. "Why... why won't you let me get help for you?" Jon stood and towered over her. "I'm not supposed to be here" he mumbled and looked down at her. She gave him a weary glance.
She was hesitant but a spark of hope shined in her blue eyes. "Who... are you? Are you... John?"
He blinked in confusion. "Yeah that's right. Jon Baker. How did you know?" "Oh... lucky guess" she replied.
Some of the hope had left her eyes and disapointment took its place.
She slowly walked over to the bed and gripped Erika's hand. "Oh my little Princess... I should never have let you do this. I knew it was all to dangerous..." The woman shook her head and kissed Erika's cheek gently.
Baker rocked a little. He was a bit unsure of how long he could actually remain upright. He wasn't sure if he was even himself any more. And who was this lady?
"What are you talking about?" He blurted out surprising himself. Jon hadn't really meant to say it, but now that he had, he was curious about the answer. How did she know Erika? She had never mentioned this woman before... at least, he didn't think she had.
"How is- Molly? Mol is that really you?" A familiar voice said. Jon snapped his head around, again, which was a big mistake, again. He swayed as the room went into it's little out of focus dance. "Easy there son" the man said. Jon saw a freckled hand on his shoulder to steady him and glimpsed strawberry blonde hair.
If his memory served him correctly, which, right now, might be a low possibility, the man was Pete Malloy. He worked at the LAPD and was one of Erika's closest friends; even called him uncle. He was also a close family friend, especially with Robert Lasky. They had been together from day one to his last breath. Jon had only talked to him a few times.
"Peter?" The woman, Molly, questioned mesmerized. Malloy stood astounded with his police hat in his hands and a slight smirk. "Molly... it's been... forever it seems" he said. "Yes it has, Peter" She replied standing and lowering her head. They watched each other for a moment before Pete turned his attention back to Jon.
"Baker, right? What are you doing in here? From the looks of it, you should be resting" Malloy commented. Amusement and worry crept into his slow, soothing voice. Jon looked back at Erika nervously. Maybe he could convince Molly not to take him back but Pete?
"Yes. He should be resting." Another voice said. Jon turned and groaned holding his head. I really need to stop doing that. You'd think a guy would learn! There's just so many voices! The young officer looked up to see who it was this time.
Dr. Bonclaire stood with his arms folded. He glared at Jon and walked foreward quickly. "Since you can not stay still Mr. Baker and do as you're told, we're transferring you and Ms. Lasky to another hospital! This one will have better control over you. We just don't have the time here. We have patients to look after who need us. But, truthfully, It's one of the best hospitals with the best reputaion, so you'll be receiving good care. If anyone can pull Ms. Lasky through, it's them."
Molly, stared terrified. "Pull her through? What do you mean? She's going to be alright... Isn't she?" The doctor sighed. "There is a... high probability that she won't make it"
