Jon got to ride in the ambulance with Erika this time as they were transferred to another hospital. He had to stay longer now since he had aggravated his condition, which wasn't his smartest move. He wasn't too happy about what Dr. Bonclaire had said either.
She'll get better. She has to! Baker told himself as the ambulance backed up to the emergency entrance. Erika stayed in a coma. She hadn't woken since the accident. He longed to hear her voice. She would probably be joking about this by now
The doors swung open as the ambulance stopped and they took Erika's gurney out first. Jon just walked and was basically ignored. They went through the emergency doors quickly to find two doctors waiting with serious looks, ready to get to work.
The first doctor, an older man with grey hair, approached the gurney and looked her over for a moment. "Get her to ER two..." he said looking at the orderly, "Tell them to make sure she's stabilized. Also, get a portable Xray up here STAT... we need to see what's going on for ourselves... don't move her off the gurney just yet because of her leg."
This doctor glance up doubtfully to the other doctor with dark hair and icy blue eyes. However, the dark haired one continued to stare in determination.
Jon was a little impressed with how smoothly everything ran and how professional these men were. It was also intimidating. He groaned inwardly. They're so strict... I'll never see Erika now!
"Tell them we'll be there in a moment." He said with folded arms. The orderly seemed to acknowledge the doctor's power and headed off when he received a stern, approving glance from those blue eyes.
"I don't know" the first sighed looking down at his hands and shaking his head, "I don't think this is going to end well Kel. I doubt that her right leg will be of any use to her even if we're able to do surgery... if she makes it that is" Kel pursed his lips "We have to try"
"Hi" Jon said flatly feeling like he should make his presence known before the conversation got any further.  They looked over to him curiously. "Jon Baker?" Jon barely knodded. "I'm Dr. Brackett and this is Dr. Early. They said you would come over here fighting... you don't seem like the kind?"
Baker glanced around uncomfortably. "I'm not. But if you try to keep me away from Erika I will be the kind." He threatened. Dr. Brackett bit his lip and rocked a little. "Well then I guess we're just gonna have to not keep you away. I can arrange for a nurse to take you to see Ms. Lasky once we get her in a room" he said slightly amused.
Dr. Early nodded in agreement and for the first time, Jon smiled. Maybe they weren't as bad as he thought... but there was something else troubling him. "Doc, they wouldn't tell me... how is she?"
Dr. Brackett stared for a moment. "Critical" he replied. "Is she... going to make it" Jon asked. He hesitated and looked at Dr. Early. "Please. I... I need to know..." He sighed. "Her chances are... very low. We can't be exactly certain... but..."
Jon blinked rapidly and looked down. "Oh... I see..." "Don't worry for now. It won't help anyone" Dr. Early stated, "We'll take good care of her here and do everything possible. Right now, we need to get those Xray done. If you will, there's a base station up here. Nurse McCall can help you to your room"
Jon watched them walk through the doors and he prayed everything would go alright. He slowly traveled to a small area filled with tape machines and medicine cabinets.
A group of people got quiet as he approached. "May I help you?" A blonde nurse asked coming around the desk to inspect his bandages.
Another doctor stood there with two paramedics. Jon cringed on the inside. Paramedics weren't his most favorite people in the world because of a few unpleasant run-ins.
"I was uh told to come here for my... room?" The nurse thought for a moment. "What's your name?" She asked tilting her head. Jon squirmed uncomfortably under one of the paramedic's curious gazes. "Jon... Baker. Dr.... uh Dr. Brackett said to find a Nurse McCall"
"Oh, yeah... I know who you are now. Sorry, I guess I was expecting someone feistier" she said. She smiled and stuck her hands in her dress pockets. Jon smiled back slightly. "I'm Dixie McCall. We'll get you situated Mr. Baker"
Jon let out a breath of relief. He didnt have to look out for Erika right now since she was getting Xrayed, so he was actually relieved to rest for a while. Though, it made him feel a little guilty.
Dixie looked back at the guys. "Hey, talk to you later boys. Stay safe out there" she said to the paramedics. "We will Dix" "Don't worry" they said overlapping each other.
She looked at Jon. "Alright let's just get you a wheelchair-" "Oh! Ms. McCall? Dr. Morton?" a red haired student nurse called bashfully. "It's urgent" Dixie waved a hand to let her know she'd be right there.
"Would you mind going with my friends here?" Dixie asked Jon before turning to the paramedics "Can you spare the time fellas to get a wheelchair and walk him to his room?" One of them shrugged. "Sure" She looked back at Jon for his answer. He forced a smile. "Uh... sure"
