"Jason, Caaaaaleb's here!" my Mom shouted up the stairs, drawing out the "a" in Caleb.

"Not funny, Mom!" I shouted back as I heard her cackle, rolling my eyes. "Be right there!" I took one last look at myself in the mirror. I had changed outfits four times, unsure of what exactly to wear. I had texted Caleb after he left for details of our date but he gave me no information. Even after endless prodding, he was here and I still was unsure of where we were going or what we were doing. In the end, I settled for a plaid teal, black and white shirt with black jeans and my pair of black Chuck Taylors. It was dressy enough yet casual enough. Couldn't go wrong, right?

I inhaled deeply and let the breath out, leaving my room. As I got to the bottom of the stairs, I heard my Mom and Caleb talking in the kitchen. "I'm really happy for you two, Caleb," my Mom was saying.

"Thanks Ms. W, so am I." Even though the swinging kitchen door was closed, I peeked through the window in the door. No, I wasn't eavesdropping. I was just...covertly observing. My Mom's back was to the door but Caleb was in my direct line of sight. He wore a black hoodie, unzipped, over a purple tee that looked like it fit him snugly and black jeans. I don't know how but whatever colour shirt he wears always brings out the brown in his eyes. Or maybe he just has those sparkly brown eyes? Point is, Caleb looked amazing.

"You know I've always thought of you as another son, right?" My Mom's voice brought me out of ogling Caleb.

"Oh stop it, Ms. W...I'll get all emotional."

"No, I mean it," my Mom said. "I've always liked you and I've always liked the friendship that you and Jason had. And I'm really glad that he has you, now that we're back." I have no idea why but I felt Caleb smiling and blushing. "That being said, I don't think you will but if you hurt my son, I will find you. And I will cut your balls off."

"Okay!" I said, rushing through the door. "Time to go Caleb. Bye, Mom!" I said as I grabbed Caleb's hand, dragging him out of the kitchen.

"Have a great time, sweetie! Curfew's at one!" She shouted behind me as I closed the front door.

"Sorry about my Mom," I said.

Caleb chuckled. "It's okay," he said as we sat in his car, "I remember the talk with Declan after you told her that you were dating." We both shivered at the memory. Caleb pulled out of my driveway as City of Angels of 30 Seconds to Mars blasted out of his speakers.

We pulled up into the parking lot of the community play park about 10 minutes later. "Wait here," he said and hopped out the car. Suddenly, the passenger door opened and Caleb extended his hand to me. I unbuckled my seat belt and took his hand as he helped me out the car.

"How gentlemanly of you," I said.

"Chivalry isn't as dead as they say, huh?" Caleb smiled. I laughed. He closed the door and took my hand as we walked over the swing set. "Have I told you that you look amazing?"

"Chivalry really isn't dead," I blushed. "Thank you. You do too." We got to the swing sets and started swinging. We laughed and talked and just played around in the park. We chased each other, swung high in the air on the swings, ran up the slides...we reveled in being children again.

Caleb went over to his car, popped the trunk and took out a canvas tote bag. He came back over and we went over to the picnic tables, settling in to eat. From the bag, Caleb pulled out bowls of fruit, two bottles of water and the dock for his iPod. I opened the bowls while he set up his iPod. Suddenly, the opening chords of Thinking of You by Katy Perry played out of his speakers and I looked up at him, smiling. This date was simple but it was sweet. It really was just...perfect.
