Laura ran. She put all her energy into getting as far away for Jason as possible. Why was she running? To get her emotions in track. To make sure she didn't do anything she would regret later. She ran for what seemed like forever, making no sound, moving swiftly through the woods like she was part of it. She ran until she could no longer, until collapsing in a heap on the floor, she couldn't contain her emotions any more. The thing with Laura, was she keeps her feelings in, all the pain she knew, until she couldn't hold it anymore, and burst into an emotional wreck.
Her mind flashed back to her last days in Australia, she remembered her foster Dad, the one who cared for her for over 12 years. A tear fell down onto the grass. She tried to keep her mind from the topic, tried to focus her mind on running, with no luck.
She remembered her last words, 'Monster, no daughter of mine.' She remembered why. She remembered having to write a story on her family, but she could only write about her foster Dad. This group of boys laughed at my lack of family, and started teasing about my real parents.
'Probably drug addicts, couldn't handle a baby, leaving her for others,' Another tear rolled down her cheek. She remembered her parents, with her until their last days. She remembered going home, emotionally unstable. Her foster Dad had tried to calm her down, saying that he was glad her parents were gone, so that he could have her. That's when Laura cracked, she screamed at her foster Dad.
She remembered her exact words, 'You don't know anything about my parents! They were amazing to me!' She remembered her foster Dad grabbing her wrists telling her to calm down. She remembered falling to the ground, a bundle of uncontrolled emotions from the last 5 years. She remembered screaming at the ceiling before her shoulders started hunching. She remembered transforming in front of him, his shocked look, his scared look. She remembered waking up the next morning with a piercing pain in her stomach.
She remembered looking up with her yellow eyes at her foster Dad, while her stabbed her stomach. 'Monster, no daughter of mine.' he cursed, 'a threat to our community' She remembered flashing lights and him being dragged away. He didn't know how hard we were to kill.
Laura couldn't hold it in. She had a waterfall of tears rolling down her cheeks. She screamed into the now night. Her screams slowly turned into howls as she slowly and painfully transformed into a red wolf. Her yellow eyes melting into the night. She howled one more time, before stalking into the night.
Jason shuddered as the night got colder. Something howled not too far away, it was mournful, full of emotion. He felt like the howl was speaking to him, or at least to someone. He shivered as a cold breeze tickled his bare arms. He was so hungry, but so tired. He couldn't give himself up to sleep though. Who knows what was out there. He rested her hands on the back of his neck and looked up into the night. He sighed and lay down on a tuft of grass. He managed to find himself a small forest to spend the night, better than out in the open. Something moved in the corner of his eyes. He swirled around seeing a dark shadow slowly prowling towards him. He froze, but the creature continued towards him, a foggy mist coming from it's breath. Jason gulped.
The creature edged out of the showed, showing that it was a wolf, a red one. Jason stared right into it's yellow eyes, not daring to move. The wolf dragged it's magnificent body closer until they were touching. Jason uncertainly ran his hands through the wolf's rough fur. The wolf lifted it's head up, howling into the night, the same howl as before, before curling into a ball and closing it's yellow eyes. Jason felt uncertain, but then his eyes unwillingly shut and he slept with the wolf as a pillow, exchanging body heat.
Jason rubbed his eyes, not knowing where he was. He didn't want to wake up because he was somewhat comfortable, but he really needed to pee. There was red hair in his face. He sat up, bearing his surroundings. He smirked, Laura was completely sprawled over him. He pushed her off, earning a kick on his leg. 'Bloody Brit,' she muttered before turning around and falling asleep again. Jason took the change to wander off into the woods and do his business.
When he came back, Laura had already set up a small fire, and was roasting some meat thing. She had gone barefoot, using her shoelaces as hair ties to make two bunches out f her red hair.
Jason made fists out of his hands, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, 'how?' he muttered, before sitting down beside Laura, his arms crossed his arms in front of him, leaning againts his legs.
She smirked and gave him a piece. 'I'm very talented, Jason,' she told him, 'I can tell you how to make a fire, it's an Aussie thing,' she grinned. 'I would teach you about hunting, but I doubt you have the guts.' she laughed as Jason blushed, knowing she was right.
So, Laura went on teaching Jason how to start a fire. She explained about how the Aboriginals used friction to get a spark, and then turned it into fire. She chiped a hole into a dry log and then put a tall stick in the hole. 'Just twist it around and make the sticks hot,' she ordered. He sniggered, but Laura just glared at him and called him a immature twat, so he did as she said, completely failing at the task. It was Laura's turn to laugh, 'You're weak.' She pushed him aside and took the stick and 2 minutes later a spark flew. She smirked at him, before throwing them at a pile of dry leaves she gathered earlier. A small fire enlighted. Jason was impressed, but he refused to show it. Laura knew it and she refused to let him hide it.
Jason and Laura sat down together next to the fire. Laura looked uncomfortable, obviously wanting to say something. Jason just calmy waited, while watching the flames dance in front of him. 'I didn't mean to get too close,' she mumbling, connecting their eyes. Jason made a grunt as in he didn't understand. Laura sighed, clearly annoyed at his lack of understanding. 'Last night, I was just sleeping next to you, I didn't mean to get too close. I came so you wouldn't freeze to death, and I quess I just moved in my sleep,' she made a curtain out of her hair, hiding her reddening cheeks.
Jason didn't speak, as if he was processing something in his mind. Finally he spoke, 'what I don't get, is I fell asleep with a wolf, and woke up with you.' Laura glared at him like he was an idiot. He blushed, 'I was probably dreaming, I mean, I was tired and it was dark.' Laura just kept on giving him the you're an idiot look. 'I'm sorry for bringing it up,' he laughed to himself. Laura just stood up walked two paces away, then turned back to face him. Their eyes connected. Laura knelt forward, not losing the eye contact. Her shoulders hunched up painfully, her skin prickling as fur grew out, she bit her mouth as her her bones dislocated, and reformed into the shape of a wolfs. Jason just stared.
