They'd been looking for Maureen for just over a week. Every disappearance, every clan massacre- all pointed towards her. She was like the opposite to most others. She never really covered up her tracks, yet even with all of the evidence and tracks they couldn't find her. She was a female younger version of Sebastian. She couldn't be tracked, not even by Magnus.

"But what if she's already left the city?" asked Isabelle, resting her head on Simon's shoulder.

"there's a chance!" sighed Jace. "but we can't leave to look for her, all the signs are here, and we would have heard of anything suspicious elsewhere." he leaned his head back over the chair, closing his eyes. He nearly drifted off from lack of sleep so he sat up-right again rubbing his eyes.

"Jace has a point." Magnus interrupted the moment of silence. "But maybe we should send out some wolves or something to just check it out." he suggested. Everyone seemed to agree.

"Jordan and I can go and we can bring three more wolves aswell."

Clary paced the small bathroom, unintentionally balling her hands into fists at her sides. She checked the time; 3:00am. Gripping the edges of the sink she glanced at herself in the mirror and found that her pale face had somehow become almost translucent with fear and blotchy from crying, her large green eyes dominated her face and her hair stuck out at odd angles.

FLASHBACK

Cautiously she walked into the dark room and held out her witch light. In the distance she could just about see a body crumpled on the ground. A part of her wanted to turn around and run in fear of who it might be, but another part dragged her feet forwards- her curiosity winning her over.

When she had crossed half of the vast room she found that the body belonged to Jace. She picked up her pace and ran to him. His golden hair, which was now a dull blonde, clung to his forehead with sweat. His arms lay limp across his torso. She pulled away one of his arms to find a huge gaping cut. His white shirt had soaked up most of the blood, staining the middle. She grabbed his hand crying and shaking her head. Se leaned over and kissed his cold cheek.

"run..." he gasped. She looked at him confused. "Sebastian..." he took a ragged breathe. "and Maureen...." his hand dropped to the floor as the remaining life left him.

END OF FLASHBACK

That was when Clary had woken up with a wet tear streaked face. She had run to the bathroom and had stayed there for a good half hour. Eventually she climbed back into bed beside Jace and he pulled her closer to him. She drifted off to sleep listening to the beat of his heart, thankful it was still there.

Raphael stared at the lifeless body at his feet, for several minutes too long. He wiped the blood off his mouth with the back of his hand. He may be a monster but Maureen was trying to make him merciless.

"Shame you got here before me, he looked rather delicious." she remarked licking her pale pink lips.

"I thought you were suppose to be in Mississippi." he said bitterly, his back still facing her. Silently she crept up beside him.

"Oh I was, but I came by to tell you that I will be leaving the country for a while with someone."

"who?" he asked not in the least bit interested.

"Sebastian. You know him, Sebastian Morgenstern- Clary's brother." Raphael noticed that she had drastically changed her tone of voice when speaking of Clary - and not in a good way. But he didn't question it.

"OK but what has that got to do with me?" he said, finally turning to face her, having to look down to meet her eyes.

"Well I will be taking one of the shadowhunter's friends with me, as bait, and I want you to give them this note once they notice that the person is gone." Reluctantly he took the small slip of paper from her and stuffed it in his jeans pockets. With that Maureen was gone.

Raphael had never really been soft hearted or compassionate, but he was mercyful. Unlike this cuniving fourteen year old. He couldn't understand how someone that small, who looked that innocent was as... Evil and bitter as she was. It was strange that someone that young could control him, and hold his life on a thread.
