There was a knock on the door and Clary awoke from her light sleep. She could hear footsteps pounding down the stairs and muffled voices from outside the door.
“Jace wake up!” she shook him by the shoulders. Clary pulled on a jumper and slippers before following Jace down to the library- that had become the usual place where all decisions were made and issues were dealt with.
“What happened?” asked Isabelle groggily once everyone had arrived.
“Jem tell them,” said Magnus sadly. Only then did Clary notice Jem’s presence, much like everyone else. He was dressed in black sweats and a white t-shirt. His face showed all the signs that he had been crying and he looked awfully pale.
“Tessa, she’s, she’s gone.” He said, biting his bottom lip to stop the flow of tears.
“Do you know who took her?” asked Jace.
“No, I woke up to hear her screaming- which was cut short. Anyway, when I went out there, the hall was empty.”
“I got a call from Raphael, and he said he might know something about her disappearance.” Said Magnus, before everyone retired back to bed.
“I guess that means down to the dungeons,” said Isabelle, dragging Simon behind her. The rest followed them down the stairs, which led to the dungeons.
The space was dark. Magnus lit a torch and held it in front of them as they walked forward. Clary though it was very old fashioned to be carrying a pitchfork, but then again everyone had left their witchlights in their rooms, and there was no other source of light.
“How did you get down here Day-lighter?” asked Raphael. Still using Simon’s nickname.
“Funny isn’t it; I can walk in day light, and enter sacred ground?” Simon said sarcastically.
“Enough. What do you know?” asked Magnus, doing all the talking for everyone else. Without a word Raphael reached into his right pocket and produced a crumpled and stained sheet.
Jem read it and tears formed in his eyes. He passed it on and everyone else read it.
Dear Shadowhunters,
I have taken your friend Tessa. We have left the country. I have two, and only two, simple requests of you. First I want you to hand over Clary Fray, Jace Morgenstern and Simon by the end of the week, before I give you back Tessa. I really do hope that I will hear from you soon-
Maureen x.
It was weird that the first thing Clary noticed was Maureen’s cliché threat, and the fact that even after her transformation, she still signed off with an ‘x’. But what would Maureen want with her, Jace and Simon? It just didn’t make sense.
Sorry it's short xx
