Okay so this is my first fanfic, and I'm pretty new to this so, please criticize! I need feedback to make my writing better. And if you have any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them. Plus I love all you grammar nazis out there! If you see a mistake, correct me! I want you to be able to enjoy quality writing! And for all you writers out there, there is this thing called Grammarly, and it is a huge help! It points out grammar mistakes and spelling errors that are accidently skipped over! It's great, I use it all the time! Thanks and Enjoy.
BANG!
Leo started coughing as the black smoke filled his lungs. Hunched over with his hands on his knees, he screamed in frustration.
"NO! NO NO NO!" he stood up straight and threw down his wrench in anger. "Why? Just when I thought I fixed it for good, it just HAD to go and malfunction again!"
He walked over to the porthole, flipped the latch, and pushed open the small window for the smoke to flood out of. He scooped up a damp towel that was on the floor and started to fan the air around him, hoping to speed up the process. As the smoke started to clear, he heard footsteps running across the floorboards above. As the footsteps neared, jumping down the stairs, he picked his wrench up and got back to work.
"Leo! Are you okay?" he turned and saw Hazel.
"Fine and dandy." he smiled at her, then sat down on the dirty floor and turned his attention back to the engine. But she saw right through it. Leo was not "fine and dandy" and all of the seven knew it. Leo had been pushing himself too hard. He barely slept, rarely came down to the dining room, and stayed cooped up in the boiler room for days before anyone saw him. He couldn't leave until that engine was fixed.
"Leo, come on. We're worried about you. You need to eat something, you need rest. You haven't had a break in four days." concern drowned her words and dripped from her lips as she walked over, and sat beside Leo. Hazel wrapped her arms around him, forcing Leo to put down his tools and take her in his arms.
"Hazel, really, I'm fine." he lied. He detangled himself from her grasp and stood up, wiping the soot off his shirt and pants. "I'm fine."
Hazel reached up and Leo grabbed her hands and pulled her up. She took one last look at him and smiled softly.
"Okay." she turned on her heel and walked out of the boiler room.
LATER THAT NIGHT
Leo's POV
You're a failure.
Everyone hates you.
Why even bother smiling?
The voices. They never stop.
I reach over into the tool box by my bed.
What are you waiting for?
I shakily grab the box opener and push up the thin blade.
Don't do this the back of my mind pleas. You're better than this.
SHUT UP! the louder and more powerful voice screams.
Tears fall from my face onto the grease covered sheets of my bed. Slowly I drag the blade across the sensitive skin of my arm, a trail of red starting to race down my elbow. It's the only thing that quiets them.
Yes, that's it. Pain is the only thing you deserve. the voice cackles, getting stronger with every cut.
I swipe the blade across my wrist again and again until I lose the feeling in my fingers. I drop the blade in defeat, a pool of blood on the floor. I quickly open the drawer to my nightstand and grab the bandages stuffed in the far back. Wrapping the soft gauze around my arm, I feel the tears coming again. I fasten the bandage and lay down on the bed, my head sinking into the soft pillow.
Why do you do this to yourself? Why do you feed that destructive voice, tearing into your soul. It's eating you alive. Why? Why why why!?
I scream out loud and sit up. I jump off the bed and run to the wall. I come at it with as much speed as I can muster and swing my fist at it. As soon as it connects I am blinded with pain, realizing too late that I punched the wall using my newly bandaged arm. When the pain died down, I sink to the floor and let out a pained sob. Crying, I clutch my sides and rock back and forth, trying to figure out what I did wrong.
Why do I do this to myself? I'm just making it worse.
And it's never going to get better.
