"Granger? What are you doing?" I wiped my nose with the back of my hand as Malfoy raised an eyebrow at me.

"What do you want, Malfoy?" I tilted my face away from the light so that he could see how pathetic I looked but I kept my voice strong and firm.

His face disappeared from view and I was almost tempted to peer over the couch I was hiding behind to see what he was doing but I stamped all over that idea when he chuckled.

"Merlin, Granger. How long have you been sitting there? I have no idea why they call you the brightest witch of your age," his voice grew more and more distant before a door slammed.

This time, I peered over the couch to find an empty common room and I scowled to myself. How dare he laugh at me and then just walk out of the room! I stood up, wiping my hands on my robes and walked towards the fire. It wasn't until I was closer to the fire that I realised how cold I truly was. I sat as close as I could to the fire, shivering and as I thought back on today's events, tears once again formed. Harry, Ron and I had agreed that we would meet in the library to study for our upcoming exams, well, I would study and they would play chess, during lunch. I had gotten there early and so started scanning the shelves for the titles I would need. I was soon immersed in the world of endless words and had lost myself to everything else, so I hadn't noticed the hours whittling away. When I came out back to reality and stepped out of the heavenly scent of pressed pages, I had immediately wished I had never surfaced at all.

[1 hour earlier]

All air was pressed out of my lungs and I felt my legs shake. My arms fell limp and had I been holding any books, they would have all tumbled to the ground in a pile of torn pages and bent covers. As it was I could barely stand upright for lounging before me was Ron...with Lavender Brown perched on top of him.

An inhuman whimper burst from my throat at the sight of my boyfriend kissing her with a kind of passion that he never had with me, and they sprang apart, looking around widely. Ron spotted my first and his jaw fell slack with shock and then a sad resignation. Tears welled up in my eyes but I forced them down.

With a clenched jaw and a straightened spine, I glared at Ron. "And you were going to tell me this when?"

"Hermione, please, just let me explain. It's not what you think-" I cut him off.

"Oh? And what exactly is it then, Ronald? Because it looks to me like you were kissing her," I crossed my arms over my chest to stop my itching fingers from reaching for my wand.

"She was helping me with my homework. You know I've been behind lately and she said she could help."

I didn't stop my fingers this time as I snatched my wand out of my pocket. I pointed my wand at his head as he raised his hands in surrender.

"Oppugno!" I hissed and an assortment of items flung themselves at him from the studying benches behind me.

Unlike in our fourth year, he couldn't avoid getting hit by hundreds of books and quills. Running footsteps drew my attention away from a stunned Lavender and a buried Ron as Madame Pince came running at the noise. I slipped between the shelves and made my way to the door but not before I heard her exclamation of horror at her books around her with Ron in the centre. I ran back to the Head dorms with tears streaming down my face, my anguish far outweighing my happiness at the punishment they would now be facing.

[End of flashback]

"What's the Weasel done now?" I don't know what shocked me more, the fact that Draco Malfoy laid a blanket around my shoulders or how he then sat next to me in front of the fire.

"How do you know it was Ron?" I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye but he was watching the flames.

"Because he's stupid and he'll always be stupid," he replied simply and I could find anything in me to disagree in that moment.

I sighed, staring so deeply into the fire that I didn't notice that he was now openly staring at me. "We were supposed to meet up in the library to study but I found him kissing Lavender instead."

I took in a deep shuddering breath and pressed the face into the blanket. The scent of green apples wafted off the blanket and I realised with a start that this blanket was off his bed.

"Lavender? Are you serious?" I glanced at him and he looked incredulous. "He chose a plant? Over you? Merlin! Either he's stupider than I thought or he needs Potter's glasses!"

I turned to him completely, shocked at his words. What was he saying?

He must have seen the confusion on my face because he chuckled, shaking his head. "Merlin. Did you borrow Weasley's brain?"

Anger surged through me. How dare he! "Malfoy-"

"Shut up, Granger!" With that last sigh of exasperation, he pulled my face up to meet his, melting my anger with a kiss so full of passion, everything else paled in existence.
