Chapter 3

I go to my workplace the next day, in this moving mini-house called a car, along with Tris filling me in with everything. I still couldn't believe, that the boy that I love... doesn't remember me...

I hold back my tears. If I wanna keep my job, it'll be nice to not make a fool of myself. As I walk around this company, I feel liked I can kind of pick up what's going on. Somehow... this whole software engineering seems familiar.

At lunch break, Tris comes up to me. "I just got news that we are collaborating with one of the most successful businesses in the world! Come meet the representatives of the business!"

I follow Tris, and I see a girl talking to our boss. Tris pulls me towards them.

"Oh Thayer!" My boss says. "This is Rose from XXX (lol I'm not creative enough to name this)."

"Nice to meet you Thayer." Even as she says this, the way she acts and talks, it just seems... very unapproachable.

"Nice to meet you too..."

After work, Tris decides to take me to where Rose works so hopefully, when I gain my memory back, I won't be completely behind.

When we approach Rose's office, we could hear disagreement.

"I'm not saying this design is as bad as your personality, but it needs a few changes. I'm just trying to help this company so suck it up!!!"

"Why are you always a jerk!!???? Can't you understand what I'm trying to say?" This voice...

"Sorry about it... those two don't get along very well." Someone approaches us. "The name's Daniel, yours?"

"I'm Thayer, and this is Tris." We shake hands.

Suddenly, the door opens and a figure barges out. I instantly recognize the person. He notices me and pauses.

"Thayer?"

"Hi Thomas..." I say. It was kinda awkward since yesterday.

Rose steps out from the office. "Hello there... Let's talk in my office while a drunk idiot gets to work."

Thomas glares at Rose. "What's your pro-"

"Just let it go for now," Daniel holds him back.

As we enter her office, Rose explains to us. "Sorry about it. Thomas is the best engineer here, but the person with the worst character. Anyway, how can I help you guys?"

"Oh, I'm just trying to get Thayer to be familiar with who we are collaborating with, since.... she lost her memory..." Tris trails off.

"Oh, I'm so sorry! But I shouldn't be the person you're looking for."

Rose presses a button. After a minute or two, someone comes in the office. "What. Do. You. Want. Now." Thomas is holding back his emotions as much as he can, just like the time people in the military were insulting me... but he doesn't remember.

"Show them around." Then Rose turns to her computer.

Thomas leads us out. "Rose literally joined us 2 days ago, and she's like the queen. Not to mention her crapped up personality!"

"I'm sorry," I say as I put a hand on his shoulder. I always did that when we trained together. He used to put his hand back on mine, and smile. But he wouldn't remember.

Again, wrong. Well, half-wrong.

He put his hand on my hand and smiled. "Thanks, Thayer." But he still doesn't remember anything...

After showing Tris and I around, we saved each other's contacts (that's how they said it in 2017) on our rectangular devices called phones.

Apparently, there is party tonight of the two businesses collaborating. Tris is all hyper and excited about it. "We have to dress up!!!" She says as she runs into my closet. "When you didn't loose your memory, you were my makeup artist and my fashion stylist. I guess it's the other way around now!"

After completely changing my outfit and Tris occasionally stabbing me in the eyeball, we headed for the party. It was at a karaoke bar. Whatever that is, as long as there's alcohol, I'm in!

When we arrived I saw Thomas chatting with Daniel, and Rose was standing alone. "Hi!" I approach Rose.

"Hi." Wow... so friendly...

"Uh... are you going to sing?" I try to start a conversation with her.

Then, Rose smiled. SHE SMILED. LEGITIMATELY SMILED. "It's been a while, but I guess I'll sing."

Still shocked that she smiled, I watch her pick a song from another rectangular device. Is that also a phone? Oh well, I'll ask her later. As I'm thinking, Rose steps on stage. I notice Thomas stares at her in shock.

The moment she started singing, the whole room went silent. Everyone just stared at her in awe. Her voice is really unique, and you can hear strong emotions in her voice. Which... reminds me of someone. During the war time, my best friend was Rose, and she would always sing and compose love songs about Thomas and I. She was the one that brought us on our first date! But this Rose looks nothing like her.

After she finished, Rose received a standing ovation. Even Thomas was clapping. As she put the mic up, numerous guys from my company rushed towards her. She pushed them away and walked towards me. "It felt good to sing again." She sighs and orders a drink.

"Hey Rose..." I ask. "Have you ever lost your memory?"

Rose stares at me with a startled expression. "Uh..."
