The sun was shining through the curtains, a bright light glistening over the white sheets and walls.

My eyelids didn't want to stay open, because I had barely gotten any sleep. All I could think about last night was Carl, and how different he was.

Sure, he still had certain features that were extremely recognizable, like the freckles painted over the bridge of his nose and the curious arch of his eyebrows, but other than that, he was almost completely changed.

When we were younger, we used to play hide and seek around the farm that we were stationed at. One day, we found the barn full of ghouls and it nearly scared me to death to the point of crying. He wrapped his arms around me and hugged me tight, and that was the day i developed a huge crush on him. He was so gentle and kind and it was the affection I craved because daddy was constantly gone with Rick or Daryl and it became frustrating.

With a frustrated sigh, I shuffle out of bed and place my feet firmly on the floor, toes curling into the carpet.

Quietly, I walk down the hall and into the bathroom, which was a little small. After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I shave the small amount of stubble that was slowly growing on my face.

When I change, I hurry down the stairs and listen closely for any sign of Carter or daddy.

It wasn't until I reached the kitchen where I saw the two of them hugging, quite affectionately if I may add.

"Okay?"

"Okay, yeah, I got it."

"I mean it, Shane."
Carter whispers.
"Don't fuck this up."

"I got it."
Daddy huffs, scratching the back of his head before looking towards me when the floor creaks under my shoes.

He walks towards me, kisses my forehead, and ruffles my hair.

"Carter is gonna watch you for a little while, but I want you to get out there and make some friends, okay?"
He says.
"I don't want you to be lonely."

"I have Carter."
I smile.
"He's my friend."

"There's teenagers here, bubba."

I shake my head, trying my best to wiggle out of his head.

"Hey-- Hey!"
He clenches his jaw.
"Look at me. Sage Briley Walsh, look at me."

Obeying, I look him in the eyes and bite my cheek.

"Get involved, show em' who's boss."

"I wanted you to be here today, I thought we would stay together and... like, leave or something."

"We're hear to stay."
He sighs.

I give him a kiss before nodding slowly.
"Yes, sir."

"I love you."
He speaks, beginning to walk away.

"I love you so much!"

"See ya, Carter."
