“What?” I whisper to myself, “Why would Mum think that I would want to go to a summer camp?” I decided to call Mum and see if she would change her mind,
“Hello?” she answers,
“Hi Mum it’s Jena,” I reply,
“Hi Jena. Did you fill out the form for me?”
“Ah, no,”
“Well, why not?”
“How could you possibly think for a minute that I would want to go to a summer camp?” I asked angrily,
“Jena this is not an option. You are welcome to look on the company’s website for a different camp, but you are going on a camp,” I replied with silence,
“We’ll talk about this when I get home but for now please fill out the form. Thank you, bye,” she finished and hung up.
I put my phone on the bedside table and lay on my stomach. I wanted to cry, but the tears would not come. I thought about calling Reina and telling her the bad news but decided against it in case I could convince Mum to let me stay here over the summer. That’s when my phone started to buzz like crazy. I grabbed it from my table and read the caller ID. It read Reina Calling. Behind it was a silly picture of me and Reina last summer. I laughed remembering all the fun times we had and now our plans of the best summer ever were going to be ruined. I remembered that my phone was ringing and without thinking I answered it,
“Hey Reina. How’s the family thing?”
“In one word, crap,”
“That bad, ha?”
“Yeah. Hey, why did it take you so long to answer?”
“ Oh, I was busy,”
“Doing what?” She retorted,
“The dishes,” I replied weakly,
“Really? Tell me what you were actually doing,”
“Okay. I didn’t want to tell you until I was positive I had to go but… Mum’s sending me to a summer camp,” I blurted out,
“WHAT?!” Reina screamed and I had to hold the phone away from my ear, “For how long?”
“Ah, basically the whole summer,”
“WHAT?!” Reina screamed again,
“Okay Reina, I know you are at a family thing and your relatives may be loud, but that doesn’t mean you have to be,”
“Oh, sorry.” I heard the garage door open and a car drive in,
“Sorry Reina I have to go, Mum’s home,”
“Okay, bye Jena.”
I raced into the kitchen and greeted my Mum at the door with a hug and a hello,
“Okay Jena, I know you don’t want to go on summer camp but just hear me out--,” Mum started,
“No I don’t want to,” I interrupted, “I had this great summer planned with Reina and then you had to go and ruin it by sending me to summer camp!”
“Look Jena, I think you could benefit from just going to this camp. You could make some new friends, do activities and stuff like that,”
“Okay that’s fine but why would you think I would want to go on a Musical Theatre camp?”
“Well Jena,” she paused, “You do know when you are in the shower, I can hear you singing,” my jaw dropped open, “I think if you go to thins camp you will learn how to sing better,” I nodded,
“Mum, is there anything I could say or do that would make you reconsider?” She didn’t even ponder it for a second, she just replied with,
“No.” That’s it then, I’m going on summer camp.
A.N. This chapter is dedicated to @ThatsSoKatniss . I'm loving her story Chasing Grace which you must check out. Also she is just a great friend, not just an internet friend. (because I know her personally). So thanks!!
