I was just about to sit down as Angelica made her comment so I nearly fell over but thankfully, I didn’t,
“Okay everyone settle down. Who would like to go next,” asked Skye a group of girls volunteered, “Yep, Melissa and your group come on up.” For the rest of the performances I just sat cross legged on the floor with my head in my hands, trying to think of a comeback to say to Angelica. I could just not come up with one. Usually I’m pretty good with comebacks.
When the final group had completed their performance I absentmindedly clapped along with everyone else. They camp leaders gave their feedback and the group sat bock down,
“Okay everyone there is…,” Skye checked her watch, “…about ten minutes until dinner. So you can go back to your cabins or hang out in the common area. Make sure you’re in the cafeteria at six o’clock for dinner. Thank you.” Everyone leapt up off their bottoms and raced out to either their cabins or the common area. From what I could tell, most boys headed to the common area and the most girls went back to their cabins,
“So girls, where do you wanna go?” asked Rose,
“Let’s go back to the cabin,” replied Poppy,
“Yeah, who knows what Angelica is doing some boy,” says Rose,
“I think you mean what some boy is doing to her,” I chipped in. Both girls laughed. I thought I had made an amusing pun, so I laughed along. When we got to our cabin, thankfully Angelica wasn’t there, so we decided to sit on the floor and talk,
“So, are you guys gonna call anyone to night?” Asked Rose,
“Whoa, you can call people here?” I asked, shocked,
“Yeah. You can call one person per day and you can talk for four minutes,” replied Rose,
“Awesome,” I answered,
“So, who are you gonna call?” asked Rose,
“I might call my best friend Reina, or my Mum,” I responded,
“Aww, that’s cute,” said Poppy and I blushed,
“So who are you girls going to call?” I questioned,
“We’ll probably call Mum and Dad. Maybe our friends also,” said Poppy,
“Well then why did why did you laugh when I said I might call my Mum?” I asked, but Poppy just shrugged her shoulders,
“You are crazy Pop,” I stated. Then the door opened and Skye’s head popped in,
“Okay girls, time for dinner,” she informed us,
“Thanks Skye,” answered Poppy. We walked to the cafeteria along with everyone else. We found an empty table with four seats and waited for our meals to be brought out to us.
Our meals didn’t take that long to come out but that was lucky because I don’t think that spaghetti bolognaise with coleslaw was worth waiting for.
Once we were finished our meals we were allowed to use the telephone nailed to the wall of the cafeteria. When I left the cafeteria with Poppy and Rose there wasn’t anyone waiting for the phone,
“You can go first Jena,” Rose told me,
“Thanks guys,” I replied. I walked up to the phone and picked up the handset. I was still pondering who to call but my fingers had made up their mind. I dialled the number of the girl who made up one half of my mobile phone wallpaper,
“Hello?” she answered,
“Hey Reina, it’s Jena,” I replied,
“Oh my God! Jena. It’s so good to hear your voice. I haven’t seen you for sooo long. How’s camp? What’ve you been doing?” Asked Reina, out of breath,
“Okay first, calm down, I’ve only been gone for a day. So…” I went on to tell Reina what we had done on the first day. I also told her about Poppy and Rose. She had a few strong words to say about Angelica which I expected.
“Why don’t you go back to the cabin Jena and we’ll make our call. It won’t take long,” Rose spoke. I nodded in response and began to walk to out cabin.
I got inside and leapt onto my bed. I leant over the edge of my bed and grabbed out my mobile. I wasn’t sure if we were allowed to bring mobiles, but I don’t think we were. I remembered the lollies that I brought and I made a mental note to share them with the girls one night. I switched my phone on. Two bars. Not good enough. I began to walk around the room holding up my phone trying to find better reception. Then Rose and Poppy wandered back into the room. They both looked at me like I was crazy. Well actually, I am,
“Umm, Jena, what are you doing?” asked Poppy,
“Finding bars,” I replied,
“Chocolate bars?!” questioned Poppy excitedly,
“Err, no. Bars of reception,” I responded,
“Oh,” Poppy and Rose sighed at the same time,
“Ah, do you guys know what time lights out is?” I asked,
“Yep, nine-thirty,” answered Rose and I nodded in response,
“Cool, because I brought some lollies and I was wondering if you guys wanted to share them with me?”
“Lollies! Really?!” asked Poppy excitedly,
“Calm Poppy, calm,” I said as I patted Poppy on the shoulder, “Yeah, just, we have to make sure Angelica isn’t in here or she’ll either tell on us or want lollies,”
“Oh, no problem, Angelica always sneaks into Will's room and sleeps there,” replied Rose,
“Okay, we’re set then!”
It’s just clicked ten o’clock. Rose, Poppy and I are sitting on the cabin floor eating lollies and playing Flappy Bird on our phones. Turns out you weren’t allowed to bring phones but everyone does anyway. We’re laughing and giggling about all kinds of things when suddenly the three of us hear loud noises coming from another cabin. We all get up and peak out the window,
“What was that?” I ask. The girls both shrug their shoulders and we go back to eating and playing. Suddenly there’s a knock at the door. ‘Shit’, I think and I was right. No there wasn’t shit at the door but when the door opened, Skye was standing right there with Angelica looking at us with an angry look on her face. We are in deep shit.
