…“Jena Gonski!” I was sat frozen on the floor, not sure if Skye actually said my name. Poppy started to push me up with her elbow and I realised Skye did actually say my name. I walk nervously up to the stage and stand next to Skye. I feel I am blushing but I don’t care. I just can’t believe that I, Jena Gonski, am playing the lead in a musical when Angelica has been participating in musicals since she was little.
The next three weeks were tough. The camp leaders made us get up at six-thirty. We had the acting component of the musical in our small groups in the mornings, in the afternoons we had singing coaching and then after dinner we had full cast practices. We only got into bed at about eleven but I didn’t care, I was having the time of my life. To top it all off, Angelica was in the Dance Troupe so that meant she wasn’t in my practice group and she wasn’t even singing.
On the last Thursday we had our final dress rehearsal which went absolutely perfect for me but I can’t say the same about Angelica. You want to hear the story? Sure, I’ll tell you. So, during my solo, the Dance Troupe is dancing in the background. According to Rose and Poppy, who were watching from the wings, Angelica was intently staring me down whilst dancing along with the rest of the troupe. She basically stops dancing and is tripped up by the other dancers and ends up on the floor. I turned around just in time to see her fall and I have never laughed so hard in my life.
Friday was the day of our final performance. Family and friends were invited to come along and watch the performance. We, again had to get up and six-thirty for set up and vocal warm ups. The audience was asked to arrive at ten-thirty for the performance to start at eleven, so we had a good four hours for everything. At nine o’clock all the set up was complete and the singers were asked to go to piano rooms to practice. Rose and Poppy came with me to the piano room. We only had time to practice the song twice until Skye came and got us and told us to get dressed, but both times I had no faults and I was feeling really confident for the performance.
Everyone was dressed in their costumes and was hanging out in the dressing rooms or the wings waiting for the clock to tick eleven. My costume was a pretty, flowing beach dress. The twins both wore matching t-shirts and shorts.
When it ticked eleven o’clock, all of the cast and crew were in the wings watching Skye as she walked on the stage,
“Hello and welcome family and friends to the final performance of this summer camp Summertime Sadness. I am Skye, the camp leader and I have been blessed with the opportunity to teach this fantastic group of teenagers all about musical theatre. We have spent three weeks working on our final production which we all hope you enjoy. So without further ado, please put your hands together for Summertime Sadness.
As Skye left the stage I walked on and began to speak my first lines of the musical.

In case you were wondering, yes I did change the story cover. Do you like it??
