It was nearly time for my big solo. I was standing nervously in the wings along with the Dance Troupe,

“Hey, Jena,” I heard a familiar voice call. It was Angelica,

“I just wanted to wish you good luck on your solo and break a leg,” said Angelica with a smile,

“Ah, thanks… I guess,” I replied. Angelica did another one of her smiles and walked off.

The lights on stage darkened which was my cue to go on. I made my way gracefully to centre stage followed by the Dance Troupe. The familiar notes of Firework began to play. My voice was guided in smoothly by the tune. As I reached the chorus (my favourite part) I thought I heard another voice but must have been mistaken. When the chorus began again I knew the voice wasn’t in my head. I turned around towards the Dance Troupe, still singing and of course there she was, Angelica, making her way toward the front of the troupe singing the same notes as me. Angelica reached me and was trying to push me towards the side of the stage but I stood my ground. I glanced over to the wings and saw Skye standing with such a disgraced look on her face but I knew that it was directed at Angelica, not me.

When the song was over, the Dance Troupe except for Angelica walked quickly off stage. I stood centre stage, waving as the audience cheered. Angelica was standing shoulder to shoulder with me waving too. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Skye motioning for us to come off stage. I did one last curtsey and blew a kiss then walked off stage,

“Great job Jena,” cried Skye as she hugged me,

“Never mind about Angelica, she is just an attention seeker,” stated Skye and I nodded in response. Finally Angelica came off stage,

“Excuse me Angelica, can I talk to you please?” Asked Skye,

“Sure,” said Angelica innocently. As she walked past me, she flicked me with her hair.

When the final scene was over, everyone came on stage to bow. I was smiling ear to ear, filled with pride. After the show we were asked to get changed and get our bags for our parents to take us home.

All the parents were waiting for their children in the common area. Rose, Poppy and I made our way out of our cabin along with all the other kids, up to the common area. I spotted my mum and Reina instantly and ran over to them. Reina enveloped me in a bone-crushing hug,

“That was amazing Jena, I didn’t even know you could sing!” Exclaimed Reina,

“Gee, thanks,” I replied sarcastically and Reina gave me her, I’m serious look. I ran over to my mum and hugged her,

“That was amazing Jena! Why didn’t you tell me you got the lead?” She asked,

“I wanted it to be a surprise,” I replied,

“Hey, you ready to go?” Asked my mum,

“Yeah, just let me say bye to some friends,” I said and she nodded in response. I ran over to Rose and Poppy who enveloped me into a group hug,

“I’m going to miss you girls!” I exclaimed,

“Yeah, but you’re coming next year right?” Asked Poppy,

“Of course!” I replied, “Anyway, I have to go,”

“We’ll miss you,” cried Rose,

“I’ll miss you too!” I said. I waved to the twins as I walked back to Reina and Mum,

“Good to see you’ve made some friends,” stated Mum,

“Yep,” I said whist grinning.

We made our way to the car. Reina and I hopped into the back. As the car trundled down the gravely road leading to and from the campsite, I waved madly to Rose and Poppy, who were waving just as madly at me back. I thought this camp was going to be a piece of shit and it happened out to be the best summer ever. Turns out that there was no sadness this summer!
