Isaiah

When lunch comes around, I sit with a couple of my teammates from the football team in the cafeteria.

"I know y'all ready for the first game next Friday," my closest friend Eli says.

I met Eli at a football camp three summers ago and we've been close ever since. He was the only friend I had when I first transferred to this school last spring and, luckily, introduced me to a bunch of his boys on the team. They're not the kind of dudes I'm used to chilling with, but they aren't anywhere near some of the fake, innocent assholes, who pretend like they don't know what a dab pen is, or the want-to-be thugs, who try so hard to be 'hood.'

"Hell yeah," I agree.

"For real. My mom's already riding me about staying on top of my grades and football so I can commit to a college," Joshua says. Quarterback and Wide-receiver make for an automatic brotherhood, and next to Eli, I would consider Josh my next closest friend even though we met not too long ago.

"Yeah, same. No one in my family ever went to college, so my mom is really putting a lot of weight on me," Eli adds, dipping a fry into ketchup.

"Mhm," I simply agree, after chugging down a carton of milk and starting another. I glance up, immediately noticing Kimberly. She is walking with another girl, who is also pretty, but nothing compared to Kimberly. At least to me.

"She's so fucking fine." The words slip from my mouth, and I instantly regret it. Fuck. I screw my eyes shut and put my head down.

I open them a few seconds later to see Eli and Josh make faces before turning to see who I'm talking about. Nosey fuckers.

Eli turns around first and gives me a weird face.

"Why're you looking at me like that?"

"The girl on the left or right?" He ignores my question.

"Left," I mumble, shifting in my seat. Eli glances at Josh, seeming to know something that I don't know, but doesn't say anything.

"Kimberly?" Josh asks, turning back around to me. His eyebrows are furrowed and he looks confused... angry even?

"What? You know her?" I ask.

"Yeah," he chuckles. "And the girl she's walking with is her best friend, Nadia. Are you feeling her?"

"Something like that. I mean...I don't know her or nothing." I try to keep cool. Hell yeah, I'm feeling her.

"Well, if you try to talk to her don't be on that fucking around shit because that's like my little sister," he says, continuing to eat.

"Nah. I'm not even like that."

Not anymore anyways...

"Yeah, don't expect any play. I tried to fuck that bitch, but she's wasn't going for it. I don't see how she was with..." a random boy sitting two people down says. He laughs, and a few boys join in.

"The fuck you say, bitch?!" Before I can think, Joshua has the boy pinned to the table, his hand gripped tightly around his neck as the boy struggles to get out of his hold. The cafeteria is loud now, drawing attention to our table. Shit. I look over to Kimberly, her friend, and Ty walking this way and hurry to pull Josh off of the boy.

"Come on man!" Eli tugs at him.

"Let's go before the campus police come." I wrap my arms around him and pull him as hard as I can. Joshua might not be the tallest or most muscular out of us all, but fuck is he strong. "Come the fuck on!" His grip finally weakens around the boy's neck and he gasps for air.
