Kimberly | Tuesday
The next day at lunch I sit where I normally do. Tavia and Nadia are going on and on about a party this weekend after the game. Personally, I'm not paying attention or interested in their conversation what so ever. Parties aren't really my thing. I don't see what's so fun about people getting drunk, doing drugs and dancing in a hot, humid house. I'd rather stay inside watching Netflix and drawing.
Besides, the fact that I have to give Isaiah an explanation is consuming all of my attention. I have to talk to him today. Otherwise, things will get even more awkward, which will be really hard since he's basically in our friend group now.
"Kimberly." Tavi's voice brings me out of my thoughts. I blink quickly and look over to her.
"Yeah?"
"Are you going to come?" She can't be serious. I've never gone to a party with them so why would I start now.
"Uhh. No." I widen my eyes.
"Come on. It'll be fun. You've never been to an actual party before." Nadia joins in.
"Exactly. I choose not to entertain the decisions that people make at parties," I snap, my words harsher than I attended.
Tavi and Nadia look at each other and laugh. What the hell is funny? I don't get it.
"Girl. You sound like someone's mother." Nadia states. 'Girl you sound like someone's mother' I mock her in my head rolling my eyes. Someone needs to sound like someone's mother.
"I say you go. You need to have fun," Tavi adds.
"Yeah. You've been acting so lame since you broke up with Trevon. Come on girl!" Nadia states.
"Lame?! I'm not lame and I do have fun!" I try to defend myself. I'm not lame. Right? Just because their idea of having a good time doesn't match mine doesn't mean that I am not fun.
"Yes, you are. You don't have fun. Not real fun anyways." Tavia smirks at me. I roll my eyes knowing that she is talking about sex.
"Look, girl. Listen to me," Nadia says, placing her hand on her chest, "not Tavia because she's just trying to get you laid." She glares at Tavia who shrugs. "You can be designated driver!"
"You want me to be y'all's chauffeur?" I laugh. Nadia nods.
"Why not? You'd be... insured with the responsibility of making sure your drunk friends get home safe and sound." She smiles at me. I don't respond.
"Oh come on! Work with me?" She pleads. Well, what the hell? I might as well because I know that Nadia won't take no for an answer anyways. It was easier saying that I wouldn't go to a party when I was dating Trevon because I'd just lie and say that we had plans. But now since I don't have an excuse anymore, there's no getting around it.
"Fine!" I give in. "I'll go to the stupid party." I don't have a good feeling about this, but I push the thoughts back. I really need to stop overthinking things.
Isaiah
Today has been a much better day than yesterday. Mainly because I have found ways to keep Kimberly off of my mind, but now that it's time to go to my last class, Government, it's inevitable not to think about her when she's going to be less than two feet away.
I walk into class and head to our table. Seconds later, Kimberly walks in looking gorgeous as always. She comes and takes a seat next to me. I try my hardest not to look at her while I pull my notebook out of my backpack. I take out a pen and wait for the bell to ring so that class can start and I can be distracted.
