Kimberly | Saturday
"Kimberly, are you okay?" I regain consciousness.
I turn over in my bed to see my mom at my side. I'm drenched in sweat, and I have the worst headache.
"Ma?" I rub my eyes.
"Yes. You were having a nightmare," she states, her face full of worry. I must have been talking in my sleep. Funny. I can't remember what the dream was about.
"What was it about?"
"I'm fine." I look around my bright room. The sun peaks in from behind my curtain causing my room to glow.
"Wait. What time is it?" I ask.
"Around one."
"One?!" I hop from my bed. I have got to break this new habit of sleeping half the day away.
"Yeah. I didn't want to wake you since you were out so late." She stands up from my bed. "How was it? I'm guessing you don't have a hangover by how fast you just got out of bed."
"You know I don't drink." I walk over to my dresser to get clothes to take a shower.
"Yeah, and I also know that a lot of teenagers lie to their parents about things like that. Or about where they are going to be and then things bad happe-"
"This isn't one of your cases." I huff.
"Sorry. Sometimes I just-"
"Yeah. I get it." I save her from finishing that sentence.
"Well, I was thinking that we could go out and do somethings today if you want to," she suggests, standing from my bed.
"Yes, I do!" It's not many times my mom and I get to spend quality mother-daughter time and there is no way I'm passing this up. Who knows how soon her next trip could be.
"Okay." She laughs. "Let's get ready and we'll leave in a bit." She leaves my room, and I head to the bathroom to get clean.
Isaiah
I walk down the hall to the living room to find Kayden and my mom playing with his toys. Kayden gets up and runs over to me when he notices me.
"What's up?" I pick him up and run my fingers over his curly hair.
"Are you gonna pay?" He holds up his action figure.
"I can't. I gotta go to work." I look over to mom who's staring at the wall.
"You gotta go wurk?" he questions.
"Yeah." I nod, putting him back down on the floor before I walk over to my mom. I give her a kiss on the cheek and she finally looks away from the blank damn wall.
"Hey." She says lowly. I can tell that something is on her mind.
"You alright?" I ask, searching her eyes for answers as I sit next to her on the couch.
"Your counselor called me yesterday. I didn't bring it up last night because it was late and you were going to that party."
"And now I'm going to work." I huff standing back up before heading towards the door. Why in the hell would she call my mom? I already know what she's going to say.
"Isaiah. You do not have to be to work until three and it is one-thirty. Sit your ass down now!"
I know she's angry when she cusses around Kayden. She rarely ever does that. Or when she doesn't use contractions. Yeah, she's pissed.
