Kimberly | Monday
I'm not ecstatic to get up for school today. Even more so because I know that I will have to talk to Isaiah today. I take my time getting dressed throwing on a black, short sleeve scoop neck crop top, boyfriend jeans, and black vans. I grab my hair, which is still curled, and fix it into a messy bun.
Grabbing my book bag and keys, I slide my phone into my back pocket and leave my house to start my day.
My friends are all waiting at my locker when I get there.
"What y'all doing here?" I ask. "Don't we meet at your locker." I glance at Nadia.
"Yeah, but you weren't there," Nadia answers. I don't look at her. Instead, I turn the knob to put in in my locker combination and grab my duffle bag inside.
"So we came to meet you over here," Ty adds.
"You alright?" Joshua questions, wrapping his arm around my shoulders when I close my locker. No. I'm actually not okay.
"Yeah. I'm cool." I lie.
"Good," Joshua says. He kisses my forehead and we all head to our class in separate ways once the bell rings.
Isaiah
The day seems to be going by slower than it usually does and I'm actually happy that it is. I'm nervous to see Kimberly and I know she won't be excited to see me knowing what happened Friday. I don't say much at the lunch table. I'm just really not in the mood to talk right now.
"You're not going to talk to nobody I see," Eli states. He is sitting in his usual spot across from me. Joshua sits beside him.
"Nothing to talk about." I shrug. They understand how I'm feeling so they leave it at that.
I look over to where Kimberly sits with her friends. Her hair is up in a bun and she seems to be in a daze. I can't help but think of how attractive she is even though that is the last thing that should be on my mind considering how she turned me down. I can already feel the tension that will between us in Government. I lean back, slouched in my chair. That's going to be a long-ass class.
One of the worst things that could possibly happen today in Government did- partner work. I exhale louder than I intended when Mrs. Barnett announces the assignment. Shit. I hope she didn't hear me."You are to read the assigned pages and answer the questions with your partner. I will lecture tomorrow and there will be a quiz Wednesday." She moves through each aisle and passes out the assignment.
When she places it on our table, Kimberly and I reach for the paper at the same time bumping each other's hands. Her skin is soft and smooth. I move my hand away and let her take it. She writes her name neatly in cursive and slides the paper back to me so I can do the same.
Kimberly
Time ticked away as we awkwardly did our work with minimum conservation. Soon it was minutes before the bell and everyone began packing.
"I'll turn this in," Isaiah tells me taking the paper from the table. I nod and sling my bag over my shoulder. It crosses my mind to talk to him about Friday, but I decide not to. I heard him sigh loud and clear when Mrs. Barnett announced partner work, so he obviously doesn't even want to talk with me.
I hurry to my locker when the bell dismisses the school. I switch bags and move through the crowded hallways to get to the dance building. I'm super excited to get to practice so that I can get my mind off of Isaiah. Dance has always been my way to get away. My way to get away from all the crap in my life.
