Isaiah | Tuesday
Once I'm dressed for school and have my stuff all together, I head out of my room down the hall into the kitchen. My mom is standing on the phone and looks surprised when she sees me.
She clears her throat. "Uh-yeah. I got it. I'll have to talk to you later." She says hurriedly before hanging up the phone and placing it on the counter. "Good morning." She looks to me giving me a weird look.
"Good morning." I place my stuff on the table and walk to open the fridge. "Everything okay?" I ask, pouring myself a cup of milk.
"Yeah, yeah. Just taking care of some business." 'Business?' What business flows she have this time of morning? I chose to ignore it because its too early to get in 'grown folks' business.
"You're up earlier than usual." She studies me, wiping down the counters.
I chuckle. "Yeah. We have to watch game film." I put the milk back in the fridge and give her a kiss on the cheek. "I'll see you later."
"Have a good day at school. I love you."
"I love you too." I grab my stuff before leaving the apartment.
When I pull into my normal parking
spot at school, I find Eli leaning on his car, a few girls standing next to him. I get out of the car and walk over to him.
"Hey Isaiah. Congratulations on the game on Friday," one girl bats her eyes looking me up and down as she twirls her hair, her voice nothing less of flirty.
"Uhh, thanks." I give her a lazy smile. I look to Eli raising my eyebrows signaling him that we should go.
"I'll hit y'all up later," he grins, winking at one of the girls before we start walking towards the building.
"Isaiah," the same girl who congratulated me earlier calls. I turn to look at her. "Let me know if you're ever looking for someone to celebrate with after your big wins." She smirks.
"You know, I'm just gonna have to pass." I continue walking, Eli snickering in my ear. A year ago I wouldn't have hesitated to jump at the opportunity, but today, in the place that I am now, I wouldn't dare.
"Bro, she definitely wants you. I had my eye on her but, aye man, I'll let you take. You need to slide," he says as if he's doing me a favor.
"I don't want that girl," I snort. "Who knows how many times she's been passed around." We reach the doors and head into the building walking down the long hallway.
"Does that even matt- Oh, right. I remember. You want the girl that doesn't want you. What? We've been in school almost three months and you've been simping over her. Shit, I thought you would have gotten over her by now when she can't even give you-"
"We kissed last night," I tell him. I'm not normally the type to go blabbering what I do with a girl, but I know this is the only way to get him to shut the hell up.
"Oh- damn," he mumbles. I glance over to him to find his face full of surprise. "So ...like, what are y'all doing now?"
"I-I don't know."
"What the hell? You mean y'all didn't talk about it."
"No." I shake my head.
"Damn."
"Yeah, exactly." I can't help the overwhelming thought that I've possibly messed up our friendship. Was the kiss too soon? Did she want to? I know for a fact her body wanted me -just as bad as I wanted it. But what about her mind? I can only think of the regret she might hold today for a decision she made yesterday.
