The next day, news had spread to the entire campus about the newly given assignment to the best trainee in the institute. I received attention from all trainees.
I hated the unwanted stares, spotlights have never been my strongest suit. Austin on the other hand was just lapping up the attention. I fought hard to resist the urge to call him out on being an attention whore. I just rolled my eyes and focused on my steps.
The hallways cleared like a boat parting water as I was walking through. Each time I glared in a direction people pretended to be doing something which further insulted my intelligence.
No one wanted me to catch them staring, knowing my reputation for putting trainees in the hospital wing I wasn't surprised. I did my best to ignore them and make my way to the cafeteria.
*******
I collected my lunch and made my way to my usual seat. I sat down with a sigh, wishing I didn't have class. I really hated socializing with my trainees. In their eyes I was stuck up and dangerous, I wanted that reputation to continue.
I found myself waring with my mind about this assignment. I don't normally think twice about an assignment but I just could not stop thinking about this one.
It was utterly barbaric to kill a bunch of persons just because they were threatening the society, not everyone would agree with our training but not many persons knew about it.
The government wanted to keep this academy a secret. But secrets had a funny way of being exposed and this was no exception.
Still persons were allowed to have opinions don't they???
Remember Raven your assignment is first place to everything
For the past days my mind has been scolding me trying to get me to see reason.
I was still puzzled over their rash decisions when suddenly the intercom comes to life
"Attention all students, please report to the conference room at 13:00 hours"
That was right after lunch. I wondered what must have been so important. I looked up and saw the room being quickly emptied
Looks like I'm not the only one who wants to know
Most of the trainees had either left their lunches or hadn't bother collecting theirs, they were eager to get to the conference room. I thought it was time I made my way to the meeting room myself.
This room was the biggest room in the academy located on the west wing of the academy. The room could accommodate all the trainees in the academy. All seats where located on a flat level while the podium was a bit higher.
There was no sound but that of the marching of the trainees. Their faces an emotionless facade. We took our seats according to year groups, the seniors sitting at the front.
The Instructors of the academy were all present looking frightening but it was something we were used to, we all were.
Headmaster Lion started walking towards the microphone looking and surveying us, obviously waiting on someone to mess up. No one did
He spoke in a confident, clear voice: "Next Week all seniors will be doing their final year trial. Hence all training will be tripped for the seniors as well as classes", he stood silently waiting for a protest but we knew better so we didn't argue nor murmur.
"All senior trainees will be expected to complete both training and final year exam if they want to avoid serious consequences ", he said looking at us, using his eyes daring us to challenge him. Nobody did, no one wanted the punishments that would follow.
"Also the Black Swan society has been proving to be a problem for us at the academy, " he paused looking for emotion that should not be shown by us.
We were well trained, so one showed any sign of acknowledgement, no one as much as blinked.
"We have assigned the academy's finest to infiltrate the main branch in England until we get the chance to take them down. These trainees are Raven Cross and Austin Maxwell. Please stand both of you".
We stood looking straight ahead focusing on nothing.
"Both of you consider this a privilege to serve the academy and to serve your country. Both of you will be informed more about this mission by our agents. You are all dismissed." he shouted across the room.
With that all the instructors including the headmaster made their way out of the room by an alternative door used only for the staff.
