The last I saw of her, she left the school handcuffed and drenched in tears. I couldn't help but feel completely useless, my little Amai being carried away by the police for a crime she couldn't have committed. I felt nothing but sadness for a few days when I decided to indulge in studies, focus on something else. I quit the cooking club and decided to become a member of the drama club. The leader had quite a nasty attitude, but I told myself to adjust. I auditioned and got a role, not too complicated or important, but a role is a role. I made my way to the auditorium for rehearsal, a few minutes behind schedule. I was on the stage helping move the props to their places when the leader, Kizana Sunobu, approached me.
"Odayaka-chan, was she your girlfriend?"
I felt my heart drop. I nodded, fighting off the urge to begin quivering my lip. I remembered to focus on other things.
"Well, I can easily make you forget her."
"Excuse me?!"
She walked to the left exit and I was left stunned. Did she just try to hit on me? You set off to the edge of the stage, near one of the main cast members. The rehearsal began and one of the teachers directed the cast thoroughly. Finally it was my turn, just Kizana and I on the stage.
"Did you rehearse any of your lines?"
I shook my head no, I had read about 13 pages in and then passed out from exhaustion of the past day.
"Okay, you can share your lines with Sunobu."
We ran through the lines quite easily, a few minor mistakes that could be fixed later in the production. It was awkward performing a romance scene with someone who had just insulted my girl- er, ex-girlfriend. Finally, I read the next line as she spoke... wait, A KISSING SCENE?! I didn't sign up for that! I began to panic, my head and neck sweating intensely, when her eyes stared into mine closely. I awkwardly threw myself into her, a lengthy kiss she pulled away from a moment later.
"It's only natural that you'd want to do that, but the text reads 'Killing Scene' AND you're not even on stage at that time."
She pointed to the script which I re-read in shock. My face glowed a light red as she smirked proudly. That... actually was... kind of nice. She wasn't unattractive, just an ugly attitude. I touched my lips, confused by the speed of the whole thing. I walked off of the stage, smiling ever so slightly because of the interesting incident. The rest of the rehearsal was a bit of a disaster, the teacher had to get up and leave the room for about 10 minutes before she came back in, calm and sleepy looking. I grabbed my bag and headed to the doorway, Kizana propped up against it. She turned to me and laughed loudly, beginning to head in my direction. I stopped, unsure, in my steps as she touched my shoulder. Her face looked satisfied, with not an ounce of uncertainty.
"A lucky one, you are."
We kissed once more, it was peaceful and somewhat comforting this time. I had to stop becoming attached to people I could lose so quickly. I ran my fingers through her twin drills and we left without a word. To this day, I don't really talk about it and neither does Kizana. We went our separate ways and talked little after that. But I'd still argue that one last kiss by the doorway was of the best kisses I've ever had...
