Hanako x Student!Reader

"Onii-san, can I have a napkin?"

Taro stood up to go grab a tissue from the bathroom, Hanako left alone with their meals. I couldn't help but notice how cute she looked in her new barrette, a little bear instead of her usual heart. I decided that I was feeling in a rather kind mood and got up to compliment her.

"I just wanted to say that you look lovely."

She giggled lightly and set her food beside her.

"Thank you, do you want to sit with us?"

I sat on the empty part of the bench beside her and she started talking about a book she was reading. I couldn't help but be lured in by her personality. All of the other girls had some maturity, but she wasn't very self dependent. It was adorable.

"Maybe we could talk later? My big brother is back."

She smiled at him and I nodded gently and left the scene. Later that evening I got a text from her on my phone.

"Hi, wanna talk? :)"

I couldn't help but smile at her simplicity, an odd but truthful way of describing her.

"Big brother says you date bad women, but you aren't bad, are you? :("

"I've made my share of mistakes, but I'm fine now."

"Yay! :D"

Her comical mood made texting fun, until it was late and she needed to sleep. I prepared myself the next day in a more childish manor, hoping it might attract her attention. She clung tightly to her brother's sleeve. She spotted me and waved wildly. I waved back and made my way to the pair. Her brother gave me a look, but I really didn't mind. She beamed and began trying to speak, but Taro stepped between us.

"We've all heard about you and the substitute nurse, stay away from Hanako!"

He seemed threatening, but I knew we could settle this like adults.

"Yamada-kun, I'd never-"

He grabbed her hand and pulled her away. She gave him a fearful look and looked back at me hopefully. I ran after them, Taro looking back at me in disgust and continuing to drag Hanako past the fountain. I stopped trying, I'd talk to her after.

"Onii-san said I can't talk to you, but I need to..."

"What's up, Yamada-chan?"

"People are making fun of me, they say that Big brother and I are dating. :("

"There's a lot of suspicious things going on right now, don't let them get to you."

"But they're just so mean! :'("

I felt my heart break knowing Hanako needed someone, I knew I had to be there.

"Let's run away together :)"

An instant smile crossed my face. It was so random, absolutely lovable. Just what I expected from Hanako.

"I promise that one day it can be just you and I."

"You really promise?"

"Yes."
