It was pretty late, but I needed to focus on my studies. I went onto the class page to see Ayano badmouthing Kizana again. Luckily, people were defending Kizana by saying she was with the school nurse after school. I glanced through the drama when I got a text on my phone from Asu Rito, the Sports club leader.
"Hey, I heard you're pretty good at soccer. Looking for a challenge?"
It was nice of Asu to think of me, so I thought it would be a good idea.
"Great! We'll see you tomorrow at 5pm."
Oka and I had been dating for a few months now. We were practically inseparable, at least that's what I thought at the time. She and I were in the club room one day when she looked up at me with puppy dog eyes.
"D-do you b... believe th-that Basu-chan is... really a v-vampire?"
"Of course not, don't be silly, OokaBoo."
She looked a little upset, paranormal creatures were her life and soul. After that day, things just stopped working between us. I was busy with soccer practice most of the time and she argued with me the other half. Things just seemed to end so suddenly, I couldn't help but feel like I should have done something... I loved Oka so much. I sat at the computer desk in my room, tired and confused, when my phone let off a buzz.
"Don't forget, our practice is being moved to lunch hour."
Asu was so upbeat about everything, she seemed to be there just when I was truly desperate. She was like a best friend, the students close to me always seemed to get pushed away. I trusted her with a lot of secrets and things, while she listened and was positive about everything. The next day, I ran to the field, Asu doing sit ups.
"Where are the rest of the members?"
I expected everyone to be here already, I was normally late.
"Well, I have to be honest with you. I just needed to talk to you privately, the other members are inside because this isn't a practice."
I lied down beside her and we spoke about life. Suddenly, she looked over at me and sighed. Our hands touched and I pulled mine away. She looked a little unhappy, maybe nervous.
"...What do you think of me? As a friend or..."
She trailed off. I thought for a second of how I would answer. We were very close and I didn't want to hurt our relationship.
"I don't want to hurt our friendship... how do you feel?"
She smiled cheekily, flopping over onto her side and resting her head on my stomach. I was somewhat stunned, my heart skipping a beat. I placed my hand on her shoulder and smiled. We continued to talk and laugh, with a peaceful silence every few minutes. The bell rang and we finally got up from the field.
"Do we have practice tomorrow?"
I asked, off topic. She smiled.
"Mhm, don't be late!"
I turned around, but her hand caught the back of my shirt neck. I looked back at her blushing smile, and she energetically latched on around my neck and kissed me sweetly.
"If you want, we could maybe... meet here after school? For some special soccer training?"
She smiled widely. I couldn't say no, and didn't want to anyway.
"I'd like that..."
