The weekend after had been quite fun. Dad had decided to have a day full of spontaneity but it ended with us both settling down to watch the sports on tv. He told me that's he'd got on top of work and had basically no meetings.
"How's volleyball?" Dad asked, for once I actually wished he wasn't so interested in my schooling.
"Oh...I didn't want to do it. You know it's too much to take on with the work and the tests and doing chores here." I sighed."Oh, okay if that's what you want....Speaking of, you're going to be proud of me." He nudged my arm.
"Hmmm? Why's that?" I asked smiling.
"Because I hoovered and polished the whole house yesterday." He answered. I sat up on the sofa and looked around. Everything did look really clean."Dad!" I gasped. He had a really proud grin on his face. I was so happy. He was starting to get into the parenting role, I felt so proud of him, to think he'd gone from shutting himself away in a room for days on end to now helping me out filled me with joy.
"I was thinking I was completely done being a martyr. Now you have a good enough boyfriend and friends you wanna hang out with I figured I'd pick up my slack and we can share the jobs ." He explains. I nod frantically, as much as I didn't mind doing extra, having dad to help sounded great.
"Okay so I can do the dinner including washing up and the washing if you do the food shopping and the hoovering and the dusting and the polishing?" I asked.
"Deal." He smiled and high fives me.I grinned to myself as I drove to the Mile's on Monday morning thinking back to that conversation with my father. I'd treasure it for a long time. If I could go back and tell myself three years ago the progress that was to come from Dad, I'd never believed it.
I pulled up knowing that we would soon be taking Hunter to the hospital. I did feel bad for lying to him but no way near as bad as what Miles was feeling. Even his text messages were going a bit vague as the day came around. I went through the back of the house and saw Miles eating his breakfast by the pool.
"Good morning Handsome!" I tried to be in my happiest mood for him.
"Hardly, Hunter's just getting dressed and Frankie was called to school early so Coach could give her team another lecture on the banner." He frowns."Rather them then me." I pull a anxious face thinking about the shouting at Lo, Franks and Shay must be getting. Miles laughs slightly at that as he scratched his neck.
