A Cinderella Story

Chapter 6

Aunt Cora, Zelena and Regina went out for a few days to get ready for the ball and meet friends. This was Emma's chance to sneak out and see Henry.

She ran out with a basket of food and headed to the barn to get Midnight. Tacking him up she rode him to Albain. Then went on foot to Kimberley's house. Henry was happy to see his mom. He ate the food and they spent the time together.

Killian joined them a little while later. Emma was furious with him though she didn't understand why she felt that way.

"What's wrong Love?"

"Everything." Emma said coldly.

"Meaning?"

"As if you didn't know."

"Whoa where is this suddenly coming from?"

"The ball! The sudden need to find a 'suitable wife'!" Emma was angry.

"Look Love, it was my father's idea. Not mine. I don't believe in arranged marriages."

"That's bull!"

"It's the truth."

"Get out!"

He didn't budge. "Emma listen to me."

"No."

"Mom maybe you should."

Emma sighed. "Fine. Talk."

"Arranged marriages aren't my thing. Never saw them as anything good. You can't be forced to love someone."

Emma nodded in agreement.

Killian continued. "I wish I could call this off but I don't want to upset my father. Are you coming?" He hoped she was.

"No. My aunt won't let me."

"That's never stopped you."

"Why do you want me to come?"

He shrugged. "It would be nice knowing someone there other than my dad and brother."

Emma bit her lip. Just as company then. I should stop while I'm ahead. Clearly he doesn't like me more than a friend. "I'll try."

Killian sighed. He wanted to tell her how much he liked her but wasn't sure if she felt the same way or not. I love you! He wanted to say. He would make sure he did at the ball. "You'll do more then try."

Emma smiled. "Right." Why me? Of all people. Why me? He could do so much better. So much better. "I better go."

Killian nodded. "Alright."

Emma went back home and cried endlessly in her room. She thought long and hard if she should go to the ball. By the end of the night, she made up her mind.

She would go.
