Chapter 13

Killian left the room to get some air. Emma followed him. She stood next to him and looked out into the distance where the mountains, thrusting spires of naked rock into the heavens so high that appeared the very sky was pierced was visible through the thickets. They were surrounded by the ever ending forest. After a minute of silence, clomping hooves of horses came roaring in.

"Sire!" A knight exclaimed.

Killian turned around. "Ah James." He smiled.

"Milady." James bowed.

Emma smiled. "Hello."

Killian told James that Cora was in the back with the baby. He reminded them what the King had ordered. Emma told him to at any cost to get the baby. That was the first priority. James nodded and did as he was told.

"Are we going to talk about what happened in there?" Emma looked at Killian.

"There's nothing to talk about, Love."

"I have magic. That's something to talk about. Why do you hate it?"

"Magic killed my mother. Magic took away the women I loved."

Emma looked down. "I'm so sorry." She held his hand. Killian moved his hand. He stepped away from her.

"I don't want to lose you."

"And you won't."

"You can't be so sure."

"I don't even know how to use it."

"That, Love, makes you dangerous. Dangerous to me, the kingdom. To the baby."

"So what do you want to do about it?" Emma already knew the answer.

"I think... I think we need to take a break. I need to think things through."

"Think things through? Do you love me?" Emma was furious.

"I... don't know."

More than anger rising inside her, Emma was hurt and upset. She took the ring off and handed it to him. "I'm taking the baby. You can come visit if you like. Henry can go back and forth. He'll stay here with you." She shuffled her feet and walked back inside.

James cuffed Cora. He was holding the baby. Regina and Zelena were locked inside a room. Emma took the baby from James, got on her horse, and rode in the opposite direction of the kingdom.

Killian saw her ride off. He sat down, playing with the ring in his hands. Drops of tears trickled down onto his hands. After a little bit, he composed himself and along with James and now captured Cora and rode to the kingdom.
