[25] The Shadowed Threat

A man stood over her motionless body, he wasn't a guard from the Institute. It was a man from the Land of Tea. There was a very small team of elite Shinobi from the Land of Tea that guarded the previous Fuedal Lord. A new team is chosen with every new Lord. His headband was evidence of that. There was a scratch in the metal, indicating he was rogue. The only ninja in the Land of Tea were that elite team.

Sasuke was ready to attack but then others appeared, four men and one woman. The rest of the team. They were all rogue. The man that had appeared first looked up at the Uchiha, his eyes narrowing on the ball with seals attached in his hand. He didn't know what it was but if it was something the assassin wanted, they wanted it, too.

They were going to take her prisoner. Take her back to the Land of Tea where they had been shunned to try to earn their honor back. After all, it was their home. Where else would they go?

"Give me that, and we'll take her and leave you alive."

Sasuke clenched the object in his hand tighter, analyzing the current situation and the stakes that were at play. Yuzuki's life. He couldn't let them take her. Not when they were so close. Not when she was the very lifeline that kept him going. Without her he was sure he would descend into complete darkness.

If he tried anything too sudden they would probably kill her right then. He wasn't sure what their intentions were but he knew that it wouldn't end happily. He knew it would end with her head on a spike. Because that was what the Land of Tea did to anyone who dared defy them.

He had to figure something out.

"What will you do with her?" He had to stall them.

"What does it matter?"

The rogue ninja was met with a steely glare and he smirked. They all knew who this boy was. Sasuke Uchiha, the heir to Uchiha clan. And the lover of Yuzuki Hatake, the heir to the Teruo clan. They had done their research. They never stopped searching for her. Always on her trail, always one step behind. She was a clever girl, always managing to cover her tracks and evade her capture.

They found her when she was most vulnerable. When she wasn't alone she let herself relax because she believed that the boy she loved would protect her.

"You know what's going to happen next. So why bother asking?"

"Just had to make time."

The man's mouth opened and he immediately dropped to the ground. He had to make the man think that he wasn't going to do anything. Many forget that even sharingan that haven't evolved into the mangekyo can still cast powerful genjutsu.

Sasuke lunged, teleporting over to the shinobi and attacked them. The first punch he aimed for the gut of the man on his left and the woman swung her katana from behind. He flipped over, kicking her away from him before dodging the next attack by throwing up his arms to guard his face. The polar particles flew from his grip, rolling away from him.

In that moment his heart dropped, because in the distance, he could see shinobi from the prison approaching. They weren't going to help them. No. They were going to help the rogue Shinobi. Sasuke was powerful, he'd been able to fight hoards of enemies. But not while trying to protect someone.

Sasuke swiftly performed a set of hand signs, biting his thumb and slapping his palm on the ground. Smoke erupted and out came several summoning snakes. They weren't quite as big as Manda but they were still large enough to frighten his enemies. While they were distracted he ran over to Yuzuki's motionless form.
