Everything nowadays has to do with luck. Whether you score big while looting a store or escape a horde of walkers or just not die, you got lucky. But luck always runs out. We were lucky when we found that store untouched and we managed to get three carts full of supplies but was that all of our luck running out? Did we use our luck in that store?
Apparently not. Thankfully we still had some left. Probably about three hours later the men finally moved on. The sun was setting by now so it would be dark by the time we got back to the prison. We heard the car pull out of the lot but sat there for an extra fifteen minutes just to be sure.
"I'll go get the car. Stay in here until I'm back." Rick instructed before slipping out the door.
"That was close." I whispered letting out a deep breathe I had been holding in the entire time we were in there. I felt claustrophobic in here and my breathing was ragged. We heard Rick pull up so we pushed our carts out of the shed and started to load up the car.
It took probably half an hour to get everything in the car and even than we still had some bags of stuff in the back seat with Carl and I. This was huge but it would go quick with how many people we have. We'll just have to make it last another little while.
We were finally on the road and I stared out the window even though it was to dark to see anything.
"There's someone following us." Michonne suddenly said. "Don't look." So I didn't. I kept my head facing forward and so did Carl. Rick glanced back in the rear view mirror.
"What are we gonna do?" I asked.
"We can't lead them to the prison and I don't want to risk stopping. We have enough gas to make a detour but it's a waste." We had found a few gas cans in the shed as well but we still couldn't afford to waste gas driving around all night.
I looked to my right out my window and faintly saw that the grass in the field was extremely tall. Probably up to my waist and an idea popped into my head.
"Turn the lights off," Rick clicked off the lights to the car. "I'll roll out into the field. I'll shoot his tire when he drives passed me."
"You sure you're up for this?" Rick asked glancing at me from the rear view mirror.
"Yeah. I'll be fine. When you hear the shot stop the car, back up and I'll run over. You might need to cover me." I grabbed my gun, opened my door and tucked my head in as I rolled out of the car and into the grass. I lid on my stomach and watched the car slowly roll up in front of me. I had placed myself perfectly in the grass to wear I could see them but they couldn't see me.
I loaded my gun and pointed it at the front tire and pulled the trigger. I heard the high pitched squeak of the air spilling from the tire and I aimed at the back one as well. I heard Rick screeching back to get me when I pulled the trigger again at the back tire. I quickly sprung to my feet and ran for the car but I didn't make it. Something grabbed my foot and I slammed onto the ground hitting my head against the hard concrete. My ears started to ring and that's all I could hear as I tried to focus on my surroundings and shake the blurriness from my vision.
I heard three things once the ringing faded. Growling, gunshots and lots of yelling. "Lightning! Lightning?" The blurriness went away completed as a knife plunged itself into the head of a walker an inch away from eating my face. Carl helped me up and I looked at Rick and Michonne who had two men held at gunpoint. Rick told them to drop their weapons and get on their knees.
