Chapter 10
Emily’s POV
“Hey guys.”
Their conversation died as they turned their heads to Damon’s direction.
“Meet Emily.”
I gave up from getting my tray back since Damon wasn't giving it to me and instead, fixed my eyes on the floor feeling his friends’ curious stares on us.
“You’ll be fine,” he said encouragingly. I looked at him and he smiled.
On my peripheral view, I saw a girl standing from her seat and made her way to me. She stopped in front of me so I looked at her, and her grin greeted me.
“Hey!” she pulled me into a tight hug.
“H-hey,” I stuttered, stunned. I returned the hug awkwardly.
She untangled herself from the hug, and instead she held both my hands with her own.
“I’m Hiezel Silva, just call me Zae. Nice to meet you!” I winced. She basically squealed in front of my face, successfully damaging my eardrums.
“I’m Emily Johnson,” I stated feeling myself getting timid again.
“I know!”
I winced again. Wait-
“How’d you know my name?”
“Adam here told me,” she pointed her thumb at the direction where Adam was seated. And there it is again, the heat radiating from Damon. I tested my theory that I wasn't the only one feeling Damon's heat and that I wasn't going crazy.
“Is it me, or is the cafeteria suddenly became warm?” Zae asked turning her head all over the place.
“It’s just you,” I said feeling myself get protective of Damon. What has the world come to? Damon dragged me to an empty chair, which was beside Zae. Great.
Zae has a straight raven’s hair that was a bit wavy at the tip, just like mine and has fair skin. Her body is slim but she definitely has curves. Unlike mine, her eyes were pools of pure black and she has a cheerful aura surrounding her.
“We are so going to be bestfriends!” she announced as she sat down beside me.
Damon sat in front of me and smirked through his lashes. He is so dead to me! I kicked his foot under the table, which earned me a grunt from him. He looked at me questioningly raising an eyebrow. I shrugged my shoulder as I began to eat my lunch.
“See you later,” I waved at Josh, Dan and Anna as Damon, Zae and I made our way to the school parking lot.
“Later,” they waved back. His friends surprised me for being friendly. I thought that being the popular they were, they would be jerks and bitches, but they were kind to me. This opened my eyes that they were not what I expected them to be. Really.
“So,” I turned my head to look at Zae. “What do have in mind making me want to go with you?”
“Oh, nothing,” she shrugged. “I was just thinking that maybe we should hang out.” I stopped walking.
“Really?” I asked my eyes widened. No one has ever asked me to hang out with anyone. To say that I almost wanted to hug Zae to death is an understatement.
“Really really,” she nodded. I jumped and squealed on the spot earning me a few glares, curious glance and an unwanted attention, but hey, who the hell cares anyway? I saw Damon chuckling at my childish behavior then shook his head lightly.
