Chapter 5

 Emily's POV

Damon and I got out of school and walked to the parking lot. When I saw their car a few meters away, I saw Adam inside, waiting for us. I stopped walking. Damon, beside me, stopped and looked at me worriedly. He noticed that I was staring at Adam and the air around him became warm. His worried expression turned into frown.

I noticed that everytime he's angry, the air around him would turn hot. The first time I noticed this, was when he attacked the football players. I shivered at the memory. When he was punching and kicking them, the air around him turned really hot, and when he grabbed my waist, standing beside a huge fire is more bearable than the heat he radiated. And when he caught me looking at Adam at the cafeteria, our table suddenly became hot. But everytime he's calm, the air is still. It's like everytime he's angry, he becomes a walking microwave of pure hotness. I think he doesn’t notice this, except the people around him. Well, he is hot.

I continued walking to their car. Damon opened the backseat door for me. For others, it might be an ordinary gesture, but for me, it’s sweet. My heart hammered inside my chest and my cheeks started blushing.

“Thank you,” I said as I slid inside the car. Damon closed the door and went to the passenger’s seat. Right after he closed the door, the heat inside the car increased drastically, that I began to sweat. Good thing Adam thought of opening the AC, turning it to the max. The cold hit me hard, but I love it.

Damon faced Adam and said, “I invited her to give her a ride to their house,”

“Is it okay?” he asked. There’s something in his tone that I can’t explain.

“Of course,” Adam said then faced me, my palms began to sweat. “Where’s your house?” he asked me.

“Here,” I said to them and Adam stopped the car.

Damon got out of the car and opened mine, like a true gentleman. To say that I was surprise is an understatement. My heart raced and the butterflies in my stomach fluttered as I got out of the car. Damon closed the door.

“Thank you,” I said sincerely, facing him. “For everything,” I added.

“Nah, it’s okay. You’re welcome,” he replied his lips turning into his sexy smile.

We stood there in awkward silence. AWKWARD

“So,” he said slipping his hands inside the pocket of his pants, then he began swinging his body. He looked so cute doing that. My heart melted at his cuteness. “See you, tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow,” I nodded smiling. The butterflies in my stomach started dancing in anticipation. Well, if butterflies could dance.

“Later,” he said.

“Later,” I replied.

I looked at Adam and waved my hand at him. He waved back, goodbye. The air around Damon started heating again, but I shrugged it off. Damon walked me to the front porch of my house then returned to the car. I waved at them one last time as they drove off, then I was attacked.

I felt a strong current of electricity shock me right after Adam and Damon left my house. I fell on my knees as I looked around me, my eyes landed on the other side of the road and saw a witch pointing a wand at me. She must be the one who shocked me. I concentrated on holding her but she disappeared. I looked at my other neighbor’s lawn but I never saw her.

I was about to get into the house, but she reappeared in front of me and sent a very strong lightning at my direction. I was hit on my shoulder and was thrown at the street. She disappeared again. I heard her laughter echo around me. I grimace as I got up. What’s wrong girl? Her voice echoed. Can’t find me? Come and get me, she taunted.
