XV. Delivering Weapons

Every time we killed a cyclops, two more appeared in its place. In a few minutes, Beth and I were pushed back several feet from the Empire State building.

A ducked as a cyclops swung it's club at me. I cut off one of it's legs and rolled away as another one appeared out of thin air. I returned to my position behind Beth as more surrounded us.

     "Duck!" Beth ordered.

I did and quickly ducked, just in time as giant clubs were swung where our heads once were. I stood up and pointed my sword at a cyclops. Putting as much power as I could in it, a lightning bolt was shot from the tip of my sword and electrocuted a whole row of cyclops. Unfortunately, more cyclopes appeared.

I grabbed Beth's wrist and ran through a weak point in the army of the cyclopes. I kept on running until my legs began to ache. When I turned around, the cyclopes were coming after us. Surprisingly, they could run faster than the normal cyclopes. I knew that we could run, but we would soon get tired, while they didin't even break a sweat. I couldn't fly both of us out of hear, and I also couldn't leave Beth behind.

I made a silent prayer to the gods that whoever saved us right now, I'd do them a favor, no matter what the cost.

Suddenly, a tornado of fire appeared before us. If I wasn't so desperate, I would've thought that it was dangerous, but I ran straight for it. The fire didn't harm us at all. When we were in the middle, it carried us higher and higher in the air. I couldn't see where we were going, but I could tell it was somewhere high. When the fire disappeared, we seemed to be standing on clouds. A huge mansion-like house stood before us.

Out of a column of fire, a man appeared in front of us. He was tall, had a strong body, and looked like an extremely serious person. He was brown hair and matching eyes. He wore a -shirt that showed his tough body, and dark jeans.

A name popped into my head when I saw him. "Hephaestus."

     The man nodded. "That's right."

Beth knelt on one leg, and I quickly did the same.

     "Why are here?" she asked.

"Well, I heard, more like sensed, Jake's prayer, and I answered it. I have saved you, and I need a favor. I have made more weapons for the gods in their war, but I can't go and give them the weapons because I need to constantly make more weapons. I need you guys to help me deliver the weapons. Deal?"

Well, I did say no matter what the cost. It wasn't as bad as I had imagined, so I agreed.

     "Great," he said.

He snapped his fingers and large pile of big weapons appeared. Shields, spears, swords, and lots of other stuff. He snapped his fingers again, and a portal appeared behind him.

"You are to gather these weapons, go through the portal, and hand them to the gods. Got it?" Hephaestus said.

Out of nowhere, a clock appeared before him. He suddenly looked alarm. Go to go! And good luck."And he disappeared in a column of fire, just like how he had appeared.

I looked at the pile of weapons and then back at Beth. She shrugged and picked a shield and a sword. She then ran and jumped into the portal.

"Oh well," I said. "Let's just hope there's no explosions or anything over there."

I picked some weapons and jumped the portal.

BOOM! Something exploded as I teleported to the other side. We were standing before an ocean and cyclopes were constantly coming from it.

BOOM! Another explosion went off, and this time, I was blown backwards. The weopns landed on me and all the air was taken out of my lungs. Suddenly, a large hand grabbed the shield and spear off of me.

I stood up and faced the person. She was at least twenty feet tall, with a helmet and stromy grey eyes. She wore a white chiton and looked very strong.

"Thanks kid," she said. "You should head back before another explosion-"

BOOM! Once again, bomb exploded. I was blown back again, but the giant lady stood her ground.

I scrambled to my feet and rushed to the portal. I jumped through and found Beth already going back with more weapons. I sighed as I grabbed more and headed to the portal.

When had come back, I realized that there was a few lightning bolts in the pile of weapons. The had sparks flying from them.

"You should let me get it," I said to Beth.

She nodded and I reached for one of the lightning bolts. A sudden wave of power rushed through my body. I would've held onto it forever if Beth hadn't nudged me with her elbow.

"Come!" she yelled as she grabbed more weapons and jumped through the portal.

I grabbed all the remaining lightning bolts and ran after her.

An hour later, we had successfully delivered all the weapons. I had gotten blown back by explosions at least twenty times and I was exhausted.

Suddenly, we were surrounded by a tornado of fire. It lifted us into the air and then began dropping. When it disappeared, we were on Speedy's back and flying somewhere.

I took a moment to sigh out of relief. Delivering weapons to twenty-foot gods and almost getting killed by explosions was not fun. I looked around for Beth and realized she wasn't there.

Where did she go? I thought.

Speedy made a loud roar and moved his head down. I looked down, and saw a cyclops holding Beth by one leg in the air. How in world did she get down there.

I jumped off Speedy's back and flew down to where the cyclops. I landed on the ground about ten feet from the cyclops.

The cyclops had a huge grin on his face. "Hello, son of Zeus. See what I have here?"

"Yes, I do," I said. "Now give her back."

He shook his head. "Sorry, but I can't do that. Just because were are cyclops, the gods think that we are nothing alone. But little do they know, we too have gods on our side. You, along with this girl and two other demigods, are the gods' secret weapons. And without you, the gods will surely fall to us. The cyclops will rule Olympus and the world!"

"Whatever," I said. "Can you just please give her back and I'll ask the gods to surrender. If they'll even consider it."

"I don't have time to play with you," he said. "Goodbye."

Suddenly, he began to fade. Beth reached out her arm and yelled, "Help! Jake!"

I tried to grabbed her hand, but I was too late. She disappeared, along with the cyclops. I dropped to my knees in shock.

How could I have let this happened? Now Beth was gone, and I was supposed to find these two other demigods while fighting back armies of cyclops. I couldn't do that alone.

I stood up with anger filling my body. The cyclops said that they had gods on their side too. If I could get this information to the other gods, they might be able to find out where Beth was.

Speedy flew down from the sky and landed by me. I hopped on and he began flying though the air.

     "Next stop, Mount Olympus."
