Narrator
Nevilles heart beat faster and faster the longer he sat next to Lydia, "Did she received my gift?", "Did she like it?". These were some of the thoughts running through his mind, several times he had told himself that she was unreachable for a boy like him, several times he told himself the complete difference. The Train stopped after a long talk about Quidditch and homework. Lydia, who had fallen asleep due to the boring conversation between the boys, woke up confused and it took herself a couple minutes to realise where she was. "I will never fall asleep on the train again!"
On the hallway of the train, she and the boys met some of their friends, including Ginny and Hermione. It wasn't easy at all for Lydia to ignore her friends because they were constantly trying to talk to her. "Hey Lyds", Ginny had greeted Lydia and went for a hug but her friend demonstrably turned away. "What is wrong with you? Did we hurt you or something?", now Hermione interrupted. "One, two, three..", Lydia counted quietly and closed her eyes to relax.
"Bloody Hell talk to us! You can't ignore us forever we live in the same dormitory", Hermione yelled, pulled Ginny and walked away.
The air in Lydia's lungs was gone like someone hit her in her stomach. This feeling luckily didn't last for long, because Seamus took her hand and pulled her out of the train and onto the platform in Hogsmeade. "Home Sweet home"
Once again students walked to the carriages and the thestrales pulled them to the magnificent castle. The winter had ended and the wide meadows shined in the bright moonlight. Lydia decided to ignore her friends furthermore. It was hard to ignore them during classes or in the great hall, but even harder to ignore them in their dormitory. She always pretended to be asleep or didn't go to bed at all which followed her to be sluggish. Her grades fell down to a low. Adding the permanent configuration MAlfoy's plus friends exhausted her even more. The only thing that made her look forward to another day was her new friends: Seamus, Neville and Dean. The only friend she kept would have been Katie Bell but she was still in ST. Mungo's recovering from the attack.
"You should really sleep or you'll die someday. My aunt told me that her husband's ex-girlfriend's husband's brother died because he didn't sleep at all; it was a kind of a disease. No, but really you should sleep!", Seamus had sitten down next to her and swung his arm protectively around her. Lydia's eyes wandered around the common room and got stuck at Ginny and Hermione whispering, what might they whisper about?
"We should really to her again, she doesn't look fine... ", Ginny whispered, glancing over to Lydia, her former friend looking tired and lifeless.
"No, she pushed us away. We tried she didn't...!", Hermione sneered. She was being hurt too much in a half year; first Ron then Lyds. Nobody could blame her for being a bit too sensitive, not even Lydia did. Even though they weren't friends anymore, she cared for them a lot.
The beautiful scent of mashed potatoes and roasted beef greeted Lydia as she opened the big door to the great hall. As always she had been late and probably missed something important. Thr four tables, each for one house, were lined up as usually but the missing students were immense. Many parents took their children from the school like the Greedy-Siblings were taken down and lived now in the far away from the United States and went there to the American school of wizardry and warcraft: Ilvermorny. But the two sisters weren't the only one, a lot of first years left.
Lydia wanted to leave too a couple of times but decided differently before she could decide something she would regret later on. "Hey Lydia... you have mud on your face!", a small Slytherin boy laughed maliciously. "Wait", Lydia rubbed her own hands in her face and then rubbed the 'mud' onto the face of the boy, "You've got mud on your face you big disgrace..", she laughed cheerfully but nobody (besides some muggle-borns) understood her. "Seriously? You guys don't know the band Queen?!". She let out a huge breath and turned away disgustedly, smirking in her right mouth half. A range of people applauded for her and laughed at her Joke, mostly Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors.
Eventually, Lydia made her way to the Gryffindor-table to get finally something to eat. Two pairs of eyes suddenly looked at her, hoping she would make her mind up and sit down next to them, speak to them and maybe be their friend again. But like every day Lydia didn't, she just glanced back to her former friends and walked past them.
"Howdy Guys!"
Seamus, Dean and Neville already sat on their regular place on the table and greeted Lydia once again with a big smile. Especially Neville had a huge one, he loved her even more than before. She had helped him with his DADA Homework and he helped her with her Herbology Homework. So they had to spend a lot of time together. Since he got to know her better and eventually told her it was him who gave her the bracelet for Christmas and ever since she had worn it every day.
"Seamus, can we leave early today? Snape is already bloody annoyed because I have been late again and I don't want to get another detention with him", Lydia pleaded as she took a big spoon of mashed potatoes on her plate.
"Huh?", his face literally already told Lydia that he hadn't listened. "Hello? Earth to Seamus Finnigan... Are you alive or should I call madame Pomfrey?", she joked and waved her hand in front of her newly best friend. "Yeah, Yeah... I will come with you.", Seamus paused, inhaled another breath and started a new sentence, "By merlin's beard, I am so excited for our apparition class. We will have the opportunity to travel anywhere we want. I'll be seventeen soon. In two months to be exact!". He spat out the words too quickly that Dean, Neville and Lydia only understood half of it. But it was true, the apparition classes would start soon. Each six-year student has been excited since the beginning.
"If you are seventeen years of age, or will turn seventeen on or before the 31st of August next, you are eligible for a twelve-week course of Apparition Lessons from an Apparition instructor. Please sign below if you would like to participate. Cost 12 ." said the sign in the Gryffindor Common Room. 12 Galleons were a lot, 59,75 pounds to be exact.
After the delicious lunch, Lydia and Seamus left early to go to DADA. It was mid-January and the snow slowly began to melt completely. Only some parts were still covered in snow.
Seamus stopped and grabbed Lydia's hand, "You really need to sleep Lyds. I have told you before but this is getting out of control."
"Everybody always tells you what to do when they don't understand why you are doing it the way you do. I am fine, trust me. ", Lydia sneered slightly and ran away, leaving Seamus standing all by himself. This is what she thought was the best idea and it would have been the best idea if she wouldn't have run into Malfoy.
The tall figure sat with his back to the wall on the cold floor. As much as Lydia and Malfoy tried to ignore each other it wouldn't work out. Each saw the pain behind the eyes of the others but instead of caring for the other. They laughed at the others pain, causing more pain.
"You should see yourself, Thomson, where is your little Finnigan friend? You seem to get closer? ", he grinned widely.
" Seamus is in the great hall ", she lied," You really think we are getting closer? Did you observe me, are you so obsessed with me that you can't stop looking at me?"
Her laughed echoed through the empty corridors and became silent. "Well, you don't look good yourself if you would excuse me now I have to go to my next class. Greet Parkinson from me and tell her that I won't tell anybody that she meets Zabini too."
The last part hit Draco right in his heart. He never really loved Parkinson, she was just a toy he liked to play with. But now she cheated on him with one of his friends. "Luckily I won't be here next year...", he mumbled and sank back into his old position.
