There's nothing holding me back - s.m
Narrator
Spring arrived in Hogwarts, little rabbits were jumping around the castle and the flowers already shook off the small layer of snow. Even if you were within the castle you could have felt that the spring has finally arrived. Love was in the air and filled the halls. Even though it was only February the sun shined so bright and warmed up everything.
The sixth years that were born before the 31st of August would be able to take their apparition tests and finish their license. You could compare this to the driving license in the muggle-world, just that you're simply not able to drive anywhere in matters of seconds, if not even less. This was especially exciting for Lydia, all she could think about was the perks this could have once she's older. A trip that would naturally require an expensive plane ticket, in which she would have to sit between two noisy sleeping old men, would be no longer. Luckily, she became 16 before the last of August, and therefore was able to take part in the test.
Overall, this month has been the best this year yet and sadly was going to end soon. Only four more days and the next month would arrive, heavily knocking on the door. The third month of the year: March, never was Lydia's favourite it somehow always has been rainy for her (both figuratively and literally)
However, this year she had her new own lucky charm companying her. He surprisingly helped her a lot, he took her to the most beautiful places Lydia had never seen. The two went for a cozy stroll near the shrieking shack, it was less terrifying with a hand to hold on to.
It was strange, Draco had done a lot of things that even he could have never imagined doing, but he knew that Lydia would make him a better and healthier person."Can I tell you something?", he whispered in her ear while hiding from classmates, "I really love you, I don't know how a guy like me, deserve a girl like you! You are so sweet, caring, amazing, smart and so much more positive things. I don't deserve you, I have hurt you a lot but still, you are here with me. Thank you.". She held him tighter with every word he spoke until she was so close to his ear. And when he finished she whispered the three words he had never heard in his life.
With the end of the school year being neat, the two had a difficult time meeting. At this point it has been a few days since the two of them have met due to all the exams that have been announced in the past days. Potions, charms and most importantly Defends against the Dark Arts. Severus Snape even seemed happy announcing the exam and going on about how hard it will be to even get an acceptable grade. "Only those who truly paid attention to every little thing I mentioned, will get through this exam and will pass the O. W. L.'s or for those of you who only pass the N. E. W. T' s", he looked directly in Lydia's Direction but she knew that she couldn't be meant since this was truly the only class, with Potions, she accepted and really got her head into it. For Draco 'Defends Against the Dark Arts' was a bit more difficult, especially because of Snape, his godfather, taught it and had an eye on him, now with all the mending the vanishing cabinet and the task his Dark Lord gave him his eyes were even more fixed on him than before. Plus Draco didn't need to learn how to defend against the dark arts. He was a part of it, but maybe it would be helpful to know how the other opponent will act during a fight. Yet, he wanted to know a lot about how to fight against anyone. Not only for fighting as a death eater, who knows maybe he would have to fight against his own kind at some point in the future.
"Hey, can you please wait for me?", Seamus screamed running after Lydia, but she just fastened her steps. He was the last person she wanted to see at the moment. Even though they had their fun together she could get annoyer by him easily, but it always had a reason. It indeed had one today, but she didn't want to talk about it with anyone, this included Draco and even her bestest of friends: Hermione and Ginny. They had enough stuff in their heads, to talk about Lydia's problems. "Lydia!!", he screamed again with more attitude. Lydia shrieked by his harsh voice, she didn't know it was in him after all. "You broke me", he stated and burned it in Lydia's head, the more he repeated himself. "You broke me", "You broke me, it was your fault you know". It lastest a long time but until he finally went back and whispered, "You broke me, Lydia Thompson! You don't break someone's heart because yours was broken..". Before Lydia could say anything Seamus vanished behind the next corner. She was lost, she was lost in her own head brand marked by three words, ten letters that hurt badly. As much as she tried she could not escape the constant repeating of those words. Teardrops fell upon her face onto her black and red Gryffindor rope.
Her small body flinched as hollow footsteps echoed through the old masonry. There was nobody who she wanted to see in this moment, especially not anyone who loves to see her cry.
Lydia really wanted to run away from those footsteps, she had a hypothesis who they belonged to and she was afraid of it. Slowly she began to stand up, straighten her legs and stretched her back, "Ow", she screamed as her back cracked loudly. The footsteps she had heard before got faster and louder the less space was between them and Lydia. With the palms of her hand, Lydia wiped away the last existing visible tears from her face. That didn't change much since her eyes were burning red.
Possibly only a couple seconds later, the person whose footsteps were hearable minutes ago was standing in front of Lydia. Sadly she was right with her hypothesis, "Thompson?"., Draco asked but with the old attitude. Apparently, they haven't been the only ones otherwise the reaction would have been different, "Are you crying?". It hurt him to speak in that mean 'git' voice, it hurt him to see the sorrow in Lydia's eyes. Well, however, he said something nice and caring, "Talk to me later, Crabbe and Goyle are only a couple of feet behind me. See you on the astronomy tower at eight?", he whispered. Lydia gave him a small nod and walked away.
It was hard for Draco always having to lie to her, he had known she was the one for him since they first met and hurting her hurt him even more. But now ever since he started following the task the Dark Lord had given him, it hurt even more than before. However, he was almost done fixing the old vanishing cabinet... He had mixed feelings about being done with the first task because that meant a bigger would follow.
