I was quiet all through Spanish. I could feel Lucy’s eyes on me most of the time; I knew she was watching me. But why? She hadn’t seen us, I hoped. But I didn’t look back, except from the corners of my eyes. I kept my head down low as well. My eyes were still very watery and anyone that looked straight at me could see I had been crying a little. But I held the tears back and thought back to what I had seen and overheard.
At the end of Spanish, I did my best to avoid Lucy in case she asked me any questions. And judging by her face, when I dashed passed her in the hall, that’s exactly what she wanted to do. Near the end of lunch I saw Richard and Lucy sneak away from their other friends to the place I saw them earlier. I didn’t know whether to follow them or not, but in the end, I did what my heart told me to do. Follow them and get some answers.
I snuck round the corner again, but this time I was alone and prepared for what was going to happen.
“Hey Richard, I need to talk to you.” Said Lucy, as she gave him a quick hug.
“What is it Luc? Is something wrong?” He asked, obviously not catching her tone.
“He’s calling her Luc already; he’s known her for no more than three hours at the most! What!” I mouthed to myself, wondering if they had ever met before.
“Ok!” Lucy started, turning her head round in case anyone was watching them. I tried to not to make a sound and spun my head back round the wall just in time.
“Ok, um, I think Corelina heard us and maybe even saw us here earlier!” She said, looking straight into his eyes.
“What! Why would you think that? No one was here apart from us. Even if she was she would never have seen us, because we would have seen here come here!” He replied, looking very confused, but at the same time worried.
“I know but, she wouldn’t talk to me all through Spanish and she didn’t look up at me once. And, even when she did, only a few times, you know to see what was on the board and stuff. Um, her eyes were really red and watery, like she’d been crying. Do think she could have seen us?” There was silence for a moment, and Richard looked uneasy about what to say.
“Um, I don’t know maybe. Why don’t you just ask her if she saw us? And I mean, why would it matter to her if we were going out anyway?”
There was then a sudden silence. I didn’t know what to think then, but my eyes said it all. I felt a small tear trickle down my cheek, but I quickly brushed it away. Then it hit me, they were going out already as well! They’ve only just met and there already going out and kissing! Now something didn’t seem right. I knew Lucy very well and I knew for sure that she would never ever go out with someone she had only just met, something felt very wrong! But even so, I had to keep listening. Then at last, Richard spoke.
“So, why would she care? We’ve only just meet and that was only a few hours ago! It’s not like she’s known me a long time like you. So why do you think she cares!”
“Because she likes you!” Lucy said quickly responding.
“Really! “Richard continued, looking a little flattered.
“Yes! That’s why she would be really jealous if she had seen us! Wait, you didn’t know that she liked you?”
“No. How could I, she hasn’t said that she does.”
“Yeah but, it is kind of obvious, the way she acts around you. Well it’s obvious if you’re a girl that is.”
“Ok then, um, what can we do then? Hang on, wait! Don’t you think she’ll think it’s a bit weird that I asked you out the day I met you! I mean you generally wouldn’t do that would you!” Richard said, now looking a little alarmed.
“Yeah, I suppose. So if she had heard, she’ll know by now that we probably have met before. I mean, she knows me well enough to know that I don’t go out with people that I have met in a day.”
“Ok, so are you going to try and talk to her or else I will?” He asked Lucy, trying to persuade her with his lovely smile.
“Ok, I’ll try!” Just then the bell went for the end of lunch and Richard hurried off to his next lesson.
“Bye Luc, text me later and tell me how it goes!”
“Ok, I will!” She says laughing a bit.
“Ok, I’ll see you later. Oh and where’s drama?” He says with a puzzled yet happy look. It almost made me feel happy watching him smile again.
“It’s just over there, first big double doors, ok?” She stared at him then he leant down to kiss her again. Only this time, she kissed him back. I could feel my heart breaking all over again. Why was I doing this to myself, and for the second time today!
“Ok, thanks Luc! I’ll see you soon!” He called to her as he slowly walked away. I then waited for her to walk towards me, and discover my hiding place. I waited and waited. She had to come this way to get to music, so where is she?
Slowly I began to lean round the wall to see if she was coming. No, she was just stood there, looking up at the sky. Her face gleaming with happiness and joy while she clutched Richard’s phone number tightly, not wanting to lose it. In the end, I gave up waiting and just walked off to my next lesson, not looking back, not once.
The rest of the day seemed to go at snail speed. Each lesson was only really just under an hour long, but for some reason, this afternoon felt like it was moving two miles an hour! By the end of the day, I was so relived to get home, only to find, that another surprise was just around the corner.
