As soon as I got in the door, I silently screamed with excitement. For a few minutes I just stood there, grinning on the door step. Luckily my mum was still at work so she couldn’t ask what I was doing or what I was so excited about. After I’d calmed down, I remembered Cleotora. I couldn’t wait to tell her! I quickly bounded up the stairs and flung everything on the floor and ran over towards the mirror.
“Cleotora! Cleotora!” I shouted to her with excitement. I was now standing right in front of my mirror, but Cleotora was nowhere to be seen. “Cleotora?” I said again, but softly this time. There was still no answer. Something wasn’t right, I could feel it. “Cleotor.........” I stopped, looking up at the top left corner of the mirror. Then I saw a large crack with bits of it stretching and twirling down and out from that corner, almost like the shape of a long spider’s web. I held my breath and then felt a shiver roll up and down my spine. “Cleotora!” I was shouting now, while banging as hard as I could on the mirror. But also praying that it wouldn’t crack right there and then.
“Yes.” I heard as a faint cry from inside. She suddenly emerged from behind that box again.
“Oh good! Why were you hiding behind the box? Why didn’t you answer me? And why is there a giant crack at the corner of the mirror?” I asked quickly, soon out of breath. She didn’t reply. Instead, she just stood still on the spot, staring at me, not saying a word. I was going to ask her what was wrong when I suddenly looked at her properly.
She looked a little more pale than usual, her dress was torn in certain places, her hair was quite messy and her ribbon was poorly done and on the side of her head. And she didn’t look very happy. She looked the saddest I’ve ever seen her, and the most worried.
“Are you ok?” I asked, forgetting all my other questions.
“Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t I be?” She replied, trying to seem as normal as possible.
“Ok. Just asking. She nodded a faint yes but didn’t say anything else.
“So why is there a giant crack at the corner or this mirror?” I asked, changing the subject.
“Oh, um. I don’t, don’t know.” I didn’t even know it was there.” She stammered, clearly not telling me something she knew. Then a thought suddenly crossed my mind. What if she was trying to break out? But then after some thinking, I realized that she’d been out before so I guess she could get out whenever she wanted. Plus the cracks made from the outside, not the inside.
“Ok. Well is there anything different from your side?”
“Um, no. Nothing different.” She replied, her voice shaking a bit. It was then that I noticed that when she was saying it, her eyes kept crossing between me, and something behind me.
“What? What is it, what can you see?” I asked, looking around myself. Nothing was there. Just my bed by the window and all my stuff scattered around the room. Unless, unless she could see something I couldn’t. “I can’t see anything? What was there?” I asked again, turning back towards Cleotora. But she was gone. “Cleotora?” I said again. But she didn’t reply. I knew she wouldn’t. Something was definitely up with her, but I didn’t know what. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
