Thirty-Eight - Normal Life

The clouds cover the sky as the sun goes down, it becoming dark and quiet.

The children in the street go home, and the street lights illuminate the roads and the houses, lights glow through windows. Soon, all the houses lights shut off as it reaches closer to mid night.

Daryl rubs his neck as he pulls his truck into his drive way, pulling out his keys and locking up. When he gets inside his house, Alexander runs up to him, jumping on his two back legs and licking Daryl' face.

"Heya boy," he rubs Alexanders ears and head, giving the dog his love for the day. "Where's Carol boy?"

Alex just wags his tail and spins in a circle. Daryl laughs, putting it bag next to the door and kicking his shoes off, hanging his keys up and jacket on the wall.

He walks quietly through the house, all the lights being off except the kitchen light, letting Daryl know Carol had gone to bed. He opens the fridge and pulls out left over Chinese, having two spring rolls then putting it back.

He calls Alex as he heads up stairs, now all of down stairs' lights off. He reaches his room, seeing Carols petite body tucked away in bed.

Daryl smiles and removes his clothes, just being left in his boxers and climbs into bed. Alex jumps up and settles down below them, curled up in a ball.

Daryl moves closer to Carol, scooping her in his arms and spooning her. She groans and cracks and eye open.

"Finally," she turns over and snuggles up against his chest. "You're home."

"I'm home." He grumbles, closing his eyes.

"How was work?" She asks sleepily.

He shrugs, "Same old, me and Rick still doing normal patrol."

"How's he doing? What about Shane and him?" She mumbles.

Daryl opens his eyes, "Ricks okay. He's dealing with it the best he can, I mean he found out his wife was cheating on him with his work colleague. Shane's smart to keep his distance."

Carol looks up at him, "Its awful, but Ricks tough, I had a feeling Lori was doing something, she had been acting up the past few weeks. How's Carl, do you know?"

Daryl shrugs again. "I don't know, bad maybe. Poor kid." Carol nods.

They lay in silence for awhile, just holding each other, breathing slowly.

"How was your day?" He whispers to her.

"Quiet, not much stuff happening. Wrote a few pages but that's about it."

"No WB?"

"No WB. I just knew what I was writing, no stops or blockage at all." She wraps an arm around his bare body.

He kisses her forehead, "That's good."

"Hey," she looks up at him, "I love you."

He grins and kisses her firmly and passionately.

"I love you." He strokes her cheek lovingly.

She stares at his lips and sighs. "I have something to tell you." He nods slowly, not saying anything. She takes a deep breath. "I don't want another dog, I can barely keep up with Alexander, I'm sorry honey."

He laughs and pulls her closer, hugging her. "That's fine, is fine. Besides when I said a new family member, I wasn't meaning an animal."

Her head shoots up, looking at him. "Really?"

"Really."

She smiled wide, "You're ready to?"

He nods and they put their foreheads against each other. "I'm ready if you are Carol."

She smiled and kisses him, wrapping her arms around him, rolling on top of him.

As they kiss and begin to remove clothes, Daryl breaks away.

"Wait," he pants. He gets up naked, picking Alex up and puts him outside their room and closes the door.

Carol lays in bed, waiting. She raises a brow. "Done?"

"Done." He kisses her lips once then down her body.

When the sun rises the next morning so does Daryl. His hands skim across Carols bare back and he kisses her once.

God, he loves this woman and he'd do anything for her. He would die for her, kill for her and nine months later when he's staring at his baby girl he holds in his arms, he knew he'd do the exact same thing.

I have decided when I reach 40 one shots I'll be ending this series, it has been an amazing time and I have loved writing these.
