CHAPTER 13
FAMILY
ANA POV
Thirty minutes later we were dressed and walking downstairs. I was a little sore so I wore a loose dress that fell to my knees and flip flops. We got to the last step of the staircase and I blushed and paused to look at him. He smiled and smacked my ass.
"Go stuff your face I'm going to talk to Wic and I'll be back." I grinned and kissed him on the cheek as I headed for the table. My eyes were engrossed by the feast before me. I was stuffing my face with buttered croissants when Zak set down beside me. I grinned as he nudged my thigh with his before I kissed him with the butter from the croissant still on my lips. He slid his tongue across my lips and I shuddered. I started to lean in but someone cleared their throat behind me.
I turned to glare at whoever had interrupted me but squealed instead. Both my brothers stood in the entrance way shoulder to shoulder. Anvil with his blonde hair and Ax with his black hair, both with clear blue eyes. They both were torn jeans and white wife beaters. They both raised a brow when I squealed again as ran across the room and leapt into their arms. They both hugged me as Anvil spoke.
"Did you miss us sis?" I kissed him on the cheek and he smiled as Ax grabbed my wrist and spun me in a half circle as his left foot went in for a kick on my right side. I laughed as I blocked it and then did a rabbit punch to his right kidney. He growled and spun me so I was in an arm lock then he gave me noogies. I was laughing as I looked up to realize all the guards had weapons pointed at Ax. I gasped and jerked out of his arm lock, throwing my hands out. Ax spoke, unaware of what was going on.
"Hey! You let me do that. You've been practicing." He looked over my shoulder then. Both him and Anvil stepped forward at the same time, pushing me behind them.
"Why in the hell are you pointing weapons at my sister?" I groaned and tried to shove between them to no avail. Frustrated I kicked Ax in the shin so he turned and looked at me.
"They thought you were hurting me, you idiot." Both him and Anvil grunted and stepped back so I could push ahead. Passing Ax I elbowed him in the ribs.
"Dumbass." He grinned and shook his head as I spoke to Wic. "It's okay Wic. He's been doing that since I was eight or so. How do you think I learned my awesome moves?" Zak laughed not angry in the least.
"I tried to tell them but they thought I had a biased opinion." I rolled my eyes and glanced at Wic. His eyes glittered with anger as he lowered his weapon.
"You became security when two Diha's left for a family emergency. Who do you think you were covering?" I jerked a thumb at my brothers behind me. "These idiots are my brothers Ax and Anvil. They took a leave when our parents died. They are also on my security detail. They didn't come back so they could look out for my sisters until they came here. Now they get to boss us around and get paid for it." Wic's gaze jerked from me to Ax as he walked forward until they were toe to toe. Then he stuck out a hand. Wic looked angry but it was Ax's voice that voice shook with rage as he spoke.
"I'm Ax. That was well done but now that you know who I am don't do it again. We rough house a lot but I would never hurt her." I snorted and he glared at me. I shrugged my shoulders.
"Like you could." Just then I heard the scuffing of feet and turned to see Ashton and Avon standing there. We rushed at each other and met in the middle. We were hugging and I was exclaiming over Avon's height when I felt a tug at my stomach I looked down to see a cord coming from Avon and wrapping around me. Shit, I knew what this meant. I threw up a shield and pushed everyone but Avon and I from the center of the room to the corners. Everyone was staring at me as I spoke. The cord clutched tighter as I struggled to breathe. Not enough time. Zak started to step forward but I screamed at him and he halted.
"Stop! Please Zak there isn't enough time. Everyone has to stay back no matter what happens. You have to stay back or you could die. You have to trust me." The cord tightened and started to shimmer as Avon stepped next to me.
They all stared as it writhed tighter into my stomach and started to disappear. I looked at Ax and Anvil as they shoved Ashton behind them so she stood beside Zak. "Please everyone stay calm." Avon grasped my hand as something teleported into the middle of the room. It was one of the shop keepers from the village and she was staring at Avon in horror as she clutched at a knife in her hand. I spoke trying to calm her, knowing what she thought.
"You have got to calm down lady, now." She looked at me as if she hadn't seen me before and she clutched the knife tighter as Avon started to shake. Shit. "Lady, look at me. Now!" She jerked and our eyes connected as she spoke.
"She is a Changeling. I saw her walking through the village. I saw her arm, she will get us all killed. She's cursed. Death follows her." She started to step forward but I froze her so only her head moved. Avon started jerking back and forth as everyone in the room stared with mute fascination.
"Listen carefully. She's half-changeling. It is the one thing our parents couldn't hide from us because no spell can shield it. She doesn't work like most Changelings. The only time you can even tell is if she is threatened with death. If you don't put down that knife then you die and I will take your soul. That is a promise. You can't threaten Avon because her power kills anyone who wants to kill her and acts on it, period. You'll get one more step and be dead. And if it unleashes itself I can't always gather all the power back." Her eyes widened.
"If I don't get it all her power will kill anyone in the line of fire. It won't be able to tell who is who when it releases from her. It could kill no one or it could kill everyone if I don't catch it all. So you have to choose." I unfroze her and her knife clattered to the ground. The power clutching at me hissed in anger and dug into me. I gasped and collapsed to the ground as the world went black.
............
I awoke my head clouded with pain. I blinked in the darkness as my eyes focused. I must have made a sound because Zak dashed to my side and brushed my hair from my face. I started to speak but stopped when I saw the anger in his eyes and his warrior face even though he was still running his fingers through my hair. I kept my mouth closed and bit at my lip as he spoke.
"What your parents did was dangerous and asinine. I will have to teach you two how to control that. As soon as it killed someone they should have trained you how to stop it." I blinked as a tear slid down my cheek.
"You can control that? How do you know that? I..." He was livid now and fire flickered across his skin as he spoke in a soft voice that scared the hell out of me.
"How old were you when it happened the first time?"
"S...sixteen. Avon was three. A drunk driver jumped the sidewalk and almost mowed us down. Instead it gave him a heart attack and he swerved and hit a pole."
"Your parents..." Jerking from his hands I leapt out of bed my hand clenched in fists.
"My parents didn't know. I didn't tell them. I thought...I thought I was....a freak...and they'd hate me because I'd killed someone. I didn't tell..." I collapsed on the floor shaking with sorrow as Zak walked around the bed and knelt down beside me and pulled me into his lap. I stiffened then relaxed as he started rubbing my back.
"I am sorry Wildfire. I am unprepared for the terror I feel when you are hurt. I do not like it very much." I giggled, hugging him tightly as I realized I was naked and he only had pants on. Sighing I pressed my hand against his erection and grasped him through his pants. He jerked then chuckled softly.
"Are you not sore from yesterday?" I shook my head as I leaned back and unzipped him. I moaned as he sprang free. I started to reach for it but he kissed me gently and lifted me up to the bed as he whispered in my mind.
"Open your mind to me." I blinked as our mind connected and intertwined as he slid into me. I was hot and ready and I could feel his pleasure as well. He thrust into me and I there was double the ecstasy. I screamed his name as he screamed mine and a blinding hot violet fire engulfed us. Then it gradually dimmed to a thread that connected us body to body. I smiled as it faded and he kissed me softly. I trusted my hips up as he spoke.
"You are a wanton Wildfire." And we went again and again until we both fell into an exhausted sleep.
