Ashley took her seat on the train, her yellow jacket pulled tightly around her shoulders. It was, according to her thoughts, "fucking freezing out there".
Thankfully, the train was warm, despite it being half empty.
She took a seat beside the doors and fiddled with her blonde hair that hung around her shoulders. She was heading to Brooklyn again. She loved Brooklyn, especially Halsey Street. She loved the word 'Halsey'. If she moved the letters around a little, they made her name.
She smirked to herself and continued to thread her fingers through her hair.
The train eventually pulled into the Brooklyn station and she left the warm train and walked back into the bitter cold once more. She hated Januarys, they were always freezing.
Pulling her jacket around her once more, she headed out the station and into the city. She loved Brooklyn.
She walked slowly around the streets, gazing at the area around her. Brooklyn reminded her so much of her home, New Jersey.
Soon enough, she found herself in Bedstuy. She liked Bedstuy and it's brick walls, especially cause of Zach, her ex. He might be annoying but he hosted good parties and always had good weed.
She took an opportunity to light a cigarette. She took her hands out of her pockets and let the icy breeze hit her soft skin. In each of her hands, she held a lighter and a packet of cigarettes. Opening the packet, she took one and before attempting to light it, she placed the packet back into her pocket.
The cigarette refused to light, no matter how hard she tried. Groaning, she threw the lighter on the ground and viciously crushed it to a pulp under her feet.
Replacing the cigarette, she walked briskly to the strip of stores a few blocks away. She walked fast with her head down, not really watching where she was going.
She didn't see the girl, reading, sitting outside the cafe with her glossy red heels poking out and therefore, she tripped over her petite feet.
"Oh my god, are you okay?" she gasped and her hands flew to her face.
Ashley sat up, rubbing her temple "Ughhh, yeah, i'm fine, why do you have you feet out, for fuck's sake" she spat.
She instantly regretted being rude when she looked up at the girl.
"I...i'm sorry" Ashley said quietly.
The other girl's entire face had crumpled, like a pastry. Ashley could see her eyes glazing over.
"Hey, hey, i'm sorry for snapping, i'm having a bad day" Ashley pulled an apologetic face.
The other girl gulped "No um...I'm sorry" she cleared her throat "i'm a little sensitive at the minute."
She tightly closed her eyes, as if she was trying to push her tears back in.
Ashley slowly got up and got into the chair opposite the girl "Are you okay?"
She shook her head "Not really."
"What's wrong?"
Ashley took a minute to look at the other girl while she gathered her thoughts.
She was also blonde, she had short hair, to her shoulders and piercing blue eyes. She wore red lipstick and a pair of black sunglasses.
The girl slowly pushed her sunglasses to the top of her head "I suck at relationships. Every guy i'm with leaves me. Every single one. Say i'm crazy, i'm insane. I'm everything but what they need" a single tear rolled down her cheek. "I'm a mess. But i'm the mess they wanted."
Ashley felt sorry for this girl "Hey, people call me insane too" she told her.
She looked up "Really?"
Ashley nodded "Yeah, i'm insane and crazy too. Well, according to everyone else. I like to think i'm the violence in the pouring rain"
A smile played on the other girl's lips "What, a hurricane?"
"Yup"
"Why do you call yourself a hurricane?"
"I destroy things and i'm pretty crazy and I can lose my temper from time to time" Ashley told her, shrugging a little.
The girl gazed at Ashley. This girl was mad. But she liked it. She needed a friend and she seemed like a good candidate.
"I'm Taylor" she told her, holding her hand out.
Ashley smiled and shook it "I'm Ashley."
She didn't know anyone who shook hands and Taylor didn't know anyone named Ashley.
"Hey, do you wanna be friends?" she asked, shyly.
Ashley giggled "Yes, i'd like that!"
"I'm sorry for tripping you up" Taylor said quietly, chuckling.
Ashley smiled "It's okay, I honestly forgot about it."
"I've never seen you around before" Taylor told Ashley "You're not from around here?"
Ashley shook her head "No, i'm from New Jersey."
Taylor raised her eyebrows "Well, welcome to New York."
Ashley giggled "Thank you. I think it's been waiting for me."
"Ha, New York waits for no one."
Ashley looked at the book Taylor's hand that she was reading "What were you engrossed in anyways?"
Taylor lifted the book. The title said "The fault in our stars".
"You've got to be kidding!" Ashley groaned.
Taylor laughed "What? It's a good book! And I want to have a relationship like theirs! I want to find love!" she laughed harder as Ashley rolled her eyes.
"You won't find love in books babygirl, you need to look at the world around you" Ashley gestured at the city that surrounded them.
"Love is so hard to find" sighed Taylor.
"Ah, then you're looking in the wrong places" Ashley said "You need to look somewhere else. Try another direction."
Taylor thought for a moment "Hmm, maybe you're right."
"I am right, i'm always right."
Taylor laughed again "You're funny"
Ashley shrugged but smiled.
"Let's get something to eat" Taylor got up suddenly, holding the book in one hand and holding the other out to Ashley.
Ashley stared at it for a moment, before taking it "Okay."
