There are some things
That only poets will experience.
The joys of birthing the solution
To a problem through writing a poem.
The light bulb moment
Where something only starts to make sense
When you write about it.
The guilt that grips your heart
After you've completed a hate poem...
A hate poem about someone you dearly love.
The discomforting feeling you get
As you reveal more secrets
In the verses of your poems -
Because you start to feel bare,
Feel like you're stripping yourself
Feel like you're giving away something precious
For the sake of the art.
And so you tell yourself
That someone else will benefit from reading it... So it's fine.
You tell yourself it could make a soul
Feel less lonely.
Make a soul laugh.
Make a soul smile.
Make a soul feel inspired.
So you keep on stripping:
Insecurities, mistakes, regrets, flaws
You put them all on display...
And you make what you hate
The very most about yourself
Look beautiful -
Because poetry, is always beautiful.
